Villa Bugis Drupadi - Villa An Tan
All four stand-alone bedrooms, along with the spacious living pavilion housing the kitchen, lounge and dining areas, open onto verandas which join the patio and tropical garden around the generous swimming pool. The pool is the focal point of the villa compound: large pots are dotted around it creating an ambience reminiscent of a Roman baths - yet with a tropical twist courtesy of the surrounding palms and frangipani trees. The architects have blended a contemporary build with a taste of traditional Balinese architecture in the form of the villa’s alang alang (thatched) roofs.
Villa An Tan is one of a small group of managed villas at Villa Bugis Drupadi (formerly Drupadi Gardens) with villa managers, guest relations officers, security staff and even a car and driver (extra charge) on hand should you require them. Housekeepers will visit every day, however they don’t loiter longer than is necessary to tidy up, so guests can happily laze their days away on the comfy loungers around the pool in the privacy of this high-walled garden. If requested in advance, the staff will prepare meals or a barbeque in the open-air kitchen balé (gazebo). Provisions are on account plus a standard charge per head. Villa An Tan is primarily a self-catering residence, but should it get a little hot in the well-equipped kitchen (or under the tropical sun) one can either take sanctuary in the poolside balé on the huge daybed, or retire to watch a movie. The villa’s lounge has a particularly good home entertainment system with a large flat-screen TV and surround-sound speakers, and all the bedrooms have TV’s and iPod docking. So if it’s a little holiday down-time you’re looking for, Villa An Tan should fit the bill nicely; the kids will be entertained for hours on end!

Villa An Tan consists of six separate pavilions all with charming alang alang roofs. From the gateway one enters the property across stepping stones over a fish pond. The villa’s spacious living pavilion has concertina-style glass doors the length of its facia which can be closed to air condition the room or opened onto the swimming pool area and cooled by ceiling fans. Inside, an L-shaped banana leaf sofa faces a large flat-screen TV. Adjacent is a square teak dining table (sits eight), whilst a long kitchen in matching teak with black granite worktops hugs the back wall the length of the room, with an equally long breakfast bar unit in front which sits six on bar stools.
Off the living area is a TV room. Here, a second banana leaf couch and easy chair faces a flat-screen TV and DVD player which also plays CD’s and has iPod docking. The flooring throughout the villa is light terrazzo and all the rooms have whitewashed walls under high wood beams supporting the thatched roofs.
A second (this time open-air) kitchen is located in its own balé in the garden. Here, eight bar stools surround the bar-like workspace which boasts both gas and coal barbeques and a wine fridge.
The king-bedded master suite stands alone at one end of the pool. At the other end are two guest bedrooms (one queen-size, the other twin bedded), whilst the fourth bedroom (queen-bedded) adjoins the living pavilion. All the bedrooms offer both air conditioning and ceiling fans and are stylishly furnished with dark wood/banana leaf beds (over which hang pieces of contemporary artwork) and built-in wardrobes with safes. Every bedroom is equipped with a flat-screen TV/DVD player with iPod docking. Open-air ensuite bathrooms are fitted with vanity units and standing showers, whilst the master bedroom’s ensuite also features a bath and a garden area.
