Villa Anjali Green
The three Anjali Villas (Anjali Green, Anjali Purple and Anjali Orange), opened in 2011, are clustered at the end of a lane through small rice fields. There is no road noise, and the villas are so well designed and built that despite their proximity, one is not aware of other guests. Villa Anjali Green is a two-bedroom villa with a private garden and swimming pool. With the villa’s open-air design, the garden view dominates the spacious and convivial living and dining areas. In fact, the pool extends into the house, adding an element of glamour (and possibly suspense if one is travelling with small children). Throughout the villa are Indonesian textiles and ethnic art integrated by the villa’s signature green theme.
Housekeeping staff attend during the day and will do the shopping for a small service charge. There is no cook, but the villa has a fully-equipped modern kitchen for those who prefer to do things themselves. There is also an excellent 24-hour catering service, Baliepicure, with a specially dedicated phone. The menus are similar to those you would find in a four- or five-star hotel and include kids’ menus and the option of delivery only or staff to wait on you while you dine. But with so many good restaurants in the neighbourhood, from budget to top-end, you will also want to dine out. There is WiFi internet throughout the villa and the villa manager and security staff will make local bookings for you.

Entrance is from the car port into the garden with broad limestone block steps over a water feature. You enter the long living pavilion — cooled by ceiling fans and open to the garden — into the dining area which is furnished with a table that seats six, as well as a buffet table ornamented with ethnic art pieces. A serving counter connects the dining area with the modern kitchen, well-equipped with a full-sized refrigerator, 4-hob gas stove, microwave and all one would need to self-cater with ease. There is a guest washroom next to the stairs.
At the opposite end of the pavilion is the living room. Featuring large built-in sofas and a coffee table, this room is equipped with a 32-inch television with local and satellite stations (although at our inspection the management was in the process of changing cable service providers). There is also a DVD player (guests should bring their own DVDs) and an iPod player and dock. In the centre of the pavilion is a feature wall of stone with tribal art pieces. Beautiful, richly coloured marble floors throughout the house add visual warmth. Bamboo screens under the eaves are easily lowered should protection from the elements be necessary.
The master bedroom is on the ground floor next to the entrance. A rather narrow staircase leads to a second bedroom of the same size directly above it. Both bedrooms are air conditioned with queen-size beds and ensuite bathrooms with large sink areas and outdoor showers with both hand shower and rain shower heads. The bedrooms have separate dressing areas with double hanging closets, big drawers, and a safe. No toiletries are provided, but there are attractive repousée metal boxes on the broad sink counter for your own things. Each bedroom has a good-sized writing table and chair, with 26-inch flat-screen television. The beds face a double-curtained full glass wall with sliding doors, giving visual space and a view of the gardens. The upstairs bedroom has an additional 30sqm sun terrace.
The central feature of the garden is a handsome 6.75m x 3.5m swimming pool, with two sun loungers on a wooden deck at one end. To the side of the pool is a lawn big enough for games, planted with a variety of grass that is comfortable on the feet.
