Villa Anjali Purple
The name Anjali comes from the Buddhist and Hindu hand position of reverence called anjali mudra, where the palms are pressed together over the heart – very appropriate for this gracious villa in Bali, an island known for its Hindu-Buddhist culture. The handsome modern architecture uses natural materials and is adorned throughout with Indonesian textiles and ethnic art in colour schemes related to each villa’s theme. Bamboo appears throughout, both as a living plant and in decorative details. These new villas (built in 2011) are so well-designed that one is not aware of other guests.
The open-air pavilion fronts onto a small garden with a six-metre swimming pool. The prettily decorated living and dining areas are pleasant for relaxing in a tropical atmosphere and are cooled by overhead fans. The bedroom is air conditioned and has a dedicated dressing area and ensuite bathroom with outdoor rain shower.
The villas’ housekeeping staff clean daily and will do shopping for a small fee, but otherwise one is left in peace. The villa manager is available throughout the day and greets guests no matter when they arrive. Night time security staff are happy to call a taxi for you. Although there is no IDD phone (the phone in the villa is specifically for the Baliepicure 24-hour catering service), there is WiFi throughout the villa complex for internet telephony.

Entrance is through the handsome car port to a small garden fronting the open-air living and dining pavilion. The richly coloured marble floors and the purple colour scheme with gold accents give this small pavilion an opulent feel. The living room has big built-in sofas and a coffee table. A feature wall of stone, with a covered garden behind it, separates the living area from the kitchen, which is equipped with refrigerator, two-ring stove, microwave oven and grill, and all necessary utensils for self-catering. The dining table seats four people.
Furnished with Indonesian textiles and ethnic art in a purple colour scheme, the air-conditioned bedroom has a queen-size bed; dressing space with good storage drawers, two hanging closets and a safe; solid timber desk with chair, and a 26-inch flat-screen TV. The bed faces floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors which look out onto the garden, with double curtains to control the flow of light. The ensuite bathroom has a large vanity area, separate toilet with bidet hose, and an outdoor shower area with hand shower and rain shower head as well as an interesting smoothly-polished driftwood chair. Extra beds (kid’s cot or a larger 90 x 200cm bed for a bigger child or adult) can be provided on request.
The main feature of the garden is a six-metre swimming pool. One garden wall is painted a bright tropical purple that brings out the green of the plants; the stylish grey back wall features top-to-ground mirrors for added visual space. On the small lawn is a comfortable sun lounger.
