Villa Aqua

In 2007 Villa Aqua pioneered a new trend in Bali party pads. The four-bedroom, two-storey villa was seemingly purpose-built by four high rollers who wanted a secure place where they could shut themselves off from the world and have fun! This place has it all – swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and a custom-designed grown-up party room. Total soundproofing of this spacious room – as well as absolute privacy for the revellers – is ensured by padded walls and a complete lack of windows! Indeed, Villa Aqua offers a standard of privacy that exceeds hotel levels, with a team of staff specially trained to be discreet, yet always willing to enhance the party vibe with big smiles and an upbeat approach to their duties. The food is excellent (there is a suggestion menu, with grocery shopping done for you on account) and the chef lays on a wicked barbecue. Within the high-walled garden and on the rooftop decks, there are spaces big enough to handle any kind of celebration you care to mention; the villa is wired for sound and the staff will clean up the mess!

Designed by a man for four other men, Villa Aqua is a very masculine place, featuring funky modern architecture, complemented by toys and games that no successful bachelor would be seen without. The 42-inch TV, Nintendo games system, pool table, ping-pong table and two bars are just some of the telltale signs of a boys’ club, but this is not to say that women and kids won’t also love the villa’s great amenities and location.

For those who want to see and be seen, Villa Aqua couldn’t be better placed; deliberately and primely positioned at the apex of Seminyak’s ‘Golden Triangle’ between La Lucciola, Living Room and Ku Dé Ta – three of Bali’s most famous, trendiest restaurants, which also double as beach clubs, party venues and nightspots. And yes, Villa Aqua is just five minutes’ walk from the beach. Even if you’re not into partying hard, this comfortable pad is perfect for chilling out, with its sunken lounge, poolside cabanas and plenty of sun-soaked daybeds.

Villa Aqua is built in an L-shape around a swimming pool and flat lawn, with two double-storey buildings, external staircases, and an upper-level pond and open-air walkways. On the top floor of the first building are two bedrooms and a sun terrace, home to four loungers and a shallow pond. Downstairs is the open-sided dining area (with seating for eight), a bar and a sunken lounge. On the top floor of the second building is bedroom number three, which opens out to a concrete terrace with a cushioned daybed beneath a passionflower-shrouded pergola. On ground level, adjacent to the party room, is bedroom number four and a steam room big enough for four.

Each of the air conditioned bedrooms has an abundance of natural light and storage space, is furnished with a queen-size bed and equipped with a Bose iPod dock. Terrazzo floors, white walls and linen create a very crisp and modern minimalist feel. The ensuite bathrooms have bathtubs, twin washbasins, and a frosted-glass cubicle housing a toilet and rain shower. Three of the bedrooms also have an open-air rain shower.

The modern and compact, fully-equipped kitchen is the chef’s domain, located out of sight at the rear of the property.

Presiding over the garden is a 25m swimming pool, which has a wide, shallow, stepped area perfect for paddling and/or children, as well as a deep channel for swimming laps. Frangipanis and palms dot the lawn, and four poolside cabanas line the back wall, surrounded by privacy-inducing white roller blinds and a white Sunbrella canopy. In the centre is a large, bubbling, cold water jacuzzi, which overflows into the pool.

What sets the villa apart, however, is the soundproof party room. Accessed from the garden via solid sliding wood doors, it is private, windowless and spacious, equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, and a 42-inch, LCD TV/DVD player and speakers. Furnished with large soft sofas, the room is dominated by a red pool table. A bar sits at one end beside a guest washroom. With no fear of disturbing the neighbours, this room can host the noisiest of parties and can comfortably accommodate 20-30 guests.
