The Arsana Estate
The villa itself is tucked away in the tiny-but-ever-so-pretty village of Nyambu some 20km from the gridlock traffic of Seminyak and 15km from the iconic Tanah Lot sea temple and its neighbouring, world-class golf course. A bamboo tunnel creates a natural entrance at the end of which the villa, built along a set of grassed terraces with a raw tropical jungle backdrop, reveals its very private self. Set on three tiers The Arsana Estate has been designed to capture its location, from the stunning volcano-lined horizon to the meandering river running at the foot of the valley. The four stand-alone bedroom pavilions enjoy the views while the living areas open to the tree tops and the pool, sun deck, drinks bar and barbecue pit overlook the river.
Designed for a self-contained holiday, the villa comes with entertainment rooms – media and billiards/games – relaxation balés for massages (extra charge), an 18m infinity pool with shallow section, internet, DVDs and an experienced staff of 16, available 24 hours a day to handle everything from grocery shopping (on guest account), to serving evening cocktails, to acting as tour guides at the nearby village. They are as likely to whisk you off to a local festival as to conjure up a magical dinner party. And they are as comfortable looking after a couple of families as they are with managing a wedding for 60 (the setting is stunning). For those who need some action – a trip to the beach, the kids to Treetops Adventure Park, or shopping in Ubud – there is a car and driver on standby. Do enjoy the journey though; it’s a privilege to experience such an authentic part of Bali.

The Arsana Estate flows down three tiers, connected by stone pathways. The villa ensures that guests are able to make the most of its location, whether admiring sunsets from the imposing entrance on the hillside to basking in serene valley views from the riverside pool. The first tier contains four bedroom pavilions, each decorated in prime colours and offering lovely vistas from floor-to-ceiling windows. The king-bedded master suite, decked out in vibrant yellow, is the largest, with an ensuite bath and shower, a TV room and an annex which doubles as a kids’ room and a study. Next along are three guest rooms, two queens (Red and Blue) and a twin (Green). All bedrooms have ensuite baths and showers, TVs and DVD players. The Red room also has an annex suitable for a couple of kids.
On the second tier is the living space. This grand open-plan area is set at tree-top height with windows and doors that fold back to let in the breeze, aided by overhead fans. The main room is split into distinct areas: a formal dining space seating 14 at a glass table with blue armchairs, backed by a well-equipped kitchen with pull-up bar stools (there is a further staff kitchen outside) and adjacent to a vine shaded pergola – perfect for a casual breakfast; a formal sitting room with signal-red sofas backed by a funky bar with prerequisite stools – both set to enjoy the views. Between is a large airy hall, off which are a games room (pool table, chess table, board games) and a media room with flat-screen TV, Wii and other electronic games.
The third, or lower, tier is where guests are most likely to spend their day, lazing around the 18m infinity pool that stretches off into the jungle. Two cushioned alcoves are perfect retreats from the sun and ideal for a massage, while the bar and barbecue area is just made for casual lunches. A balé is secreted away by the river. The villa’s superb sound system caps things off and, given the design and location, no one will complain if you feel the need to pump up the volume and have a bit of a party.
