Astika Toyaning appears to have been designed with family in mind. They say ‘the family that eats together stays together’ and you only need to look at the beautiful wooden 12-seater dining table to see that mealtimes here are going to be a social occasion. A marble guest kitchen and bar area flanks this outdoor dining room which is enhanced by dramatic, eye-catching red lighting.

The dining and kitchen pavilion overlooks the two pools set into a garden that breathes ‘tropical paradise’ at every turn. Eight poolside sunbeds beckon from below the bright red parasols, as does the poolside balé, with its matching red cushions. Decorated with local art, artefacts, traditional puppets, and a gorgeous wooden coffee table, the fan-cooled open-air living area allows parents to watch over kids cavorting in the pool from the massive couch and armchairs cushioned in shades of maroon. An air conditioned multimedia TV room, is situated between the twin bedroom and the living area, complete with Satellite TV, VCD/DVD, stereo CD and extensive collection of music and films, books and games, for both adults and kids.

The four air conditioned ensuite bedrooms (three with king-size beds and one twin-bedded) all look onto the pools and garden. The master bedroom is done up beautifully in wood and complementary tones of red and orange. Its semi-open-air ensuite includes a striking double vanity unit formed from a huge tree trunk which cleverly hides all the electrics and pipes. Next door is the twin-bedded room (ideal for children) complete with resident dogs napping at the foot of the beds: resident dogs made of folded towels! A very sweet touch. This room’s ensuite bathroom is shower only.

On the other side of the garden are the third and fourth double bedrooms: the Thai Room and the Japanese Room. The Thai Room, with its romantic canopied four-poster, is done in soothing shades of green and rich leather and wood; it is guarded by two beautifully carved elephant statues. The Japanese Room next door, home to a striking traditional silk kimono-turned artwork, is decorated in yellow and white and boasts a huge bed in the middle of the room on a raised platform. Very Zen master. Both ensuites have large bathtubs and outdoor showers.

The simple yet effective bedroom décor at Astika Toyaning makes naptime all the more alluring. All rooms boast iPod docks, while the greater villa is serviced by a central dock attached to an outdoor Bose Sound System.
