Bali Bali Estate
Designed by the Italian architect Gianni Francione, Bali Bali Estate’s sustainable build blends completely into its soothing setting; a liberal use of timber and Balinese island stone provides the properties with bags of character and reflects their tropical contemporary design. Angular shingle roofs sharply rise before falling to merge with the lush landscaping of the garden, all the while playing with the light to create spectacularly shaped rooms highlighted by varying tones of ambiance dependent upon the time of day. Interiors are simple, minimal and rustic with basic luxuries that emphasise total relaxation; different floor levels merge with the descending roofs to create a handful of individual spots in each villa for relaxing and dining. Although the villas are only a stone’s throw away from one another, they offer plenty of individual peace and privacy too.
Enveloped by the lush backdrop of a garden fringed with borders of tropical hibiscus, bougainvillea and bird of paradise two of the villas have their own private swimming pools whilst the third has an open-air whirlpool. Although each of the villas is a completely unique design their interiors are similarly earthy toned and highlighted by tribal artefacts sourced from all over the Indonesian archipelago. A fully-equipped kitchen in each villa is ideal for self-caterers, although there’s also a wonderful chef for the kitchen-shy (groceries on guest account). The estate benefits from a truly restful location in rural Umalas; however it’s only a fifteen minute drive to Seminyak and ten minutes to the beach.

Bali Bali Villa One has three wood-panelled double bedrooms; of these the master has a mezzanine sleeping area, lots of built-in cupboards and its own ensuite bathroom with small jacuzzi tub whilst the second and third bedrooms share a bathroom. In Bali Bali Villa Two, both bedrooms are ensuite with air conditioned bathrooms; the master bedroom here also has a small jacuzzi tub. Bali Bali Cottage has three bedrooms – although one of these is a small single suitable only for a child and sharing a bathroom with the upstairs double. The master bedroom at the Cottage is a twin with ensuite bathroom. All eight bedrooms at Bali Bali Estate are air conditioned and all bathrooms come with showers.
Of the three villas, Villa One is the largest having the biggest swimming pool, garden and more spacious living areas. Its interior design is similar to Villa Two in that they both have spacious lounges defined by the angular sloping roofs open to their respective tropical gardens and swimming pools. Sofa seating is placed to take in the outside views whilst a mezzanine floor in both villas has an additional sofa overlooking a TV, DVD player and stereo. Towards the back of Villa One and to the side of Villa Two are sunken dining areas with views of the garden (seating eight and four respectively) that lead to individual fully-equipped kitchens that are located at the rear of the villa with separate service entrance.
Bali Bali Cottage is smaller than the other two villas and has a slightly different layout as it features a double-roofed timber walkway that connects the front building – housing a living room furnished with sofas, TV, DVD player and stereo; a small kitchen; a bathroom and the double bedroom and child’s room – to the master (twin) bedroom, via an open-sided dining area (seating for six) and a whirlpool surrounded by a stone sun deck.
