Villa Bella

  • Location: Umalas-Kerobokan
  • Number of bedrooms: 3
Pretty as a picture, Villa Bella is gorgeous inside and out. Set in magical surroundings overlooking terraced rice fields with sunset views, this private three-bedroom villa suits the romantic with an appreciation for detail.

Once the owner’s home, great lengths have been taken to keep this villa personal with plentiful urns of tuber rose and hydrangeas, antique lace finishes in the bedrooms, carved wooden mirrors and delicate embroidered cushions from trips worldwide. The soft interiors and external pink terracotta walls create a very feminine charm, giving it a homely feel that is missing in a lot of today’s ultra modern villas.

This theme extends through to the delightful staff who add to the whole villa experience. Ketut the chef is part of the family having served at the villa for nearly 20 years - a testament in itself. At mealtimes, guests can choose dishes from the suggestion menu or have Ketut whip up their favourite recipe (provisions are on guest account). The staff work eight hours a day and usually prepare an evening meal before they leave but are available to serve dinner on request at additional cost.

After a delicious home-cooked meal, curl up and take a nap in one of the poolside balés or relax in the comfortable open living area which catches the breeze. The large tropical garden with sloping lawns and infinity pool provides plenty of space outdoors, its beautiful mature frangipani, mango and bamboo trees attracting local fauna..

If guests do decide to leave this private hideaway, it’s only a 15 minute drive to Seminyak or a ten-minute drive to the beach.

At the end of the day kick back, perhaps in one of the bedroom hammocks, and watch as the villa and garden are bathed in the pink and golden hues of the setting sun, adding to the beauty that is already Villa Bella.

Behind Bella’s traditional Balinese wooden doors, a path meanders down past a lotus fish pond with bamboo lanterns to the large open-air living/dining area which looks out across the magnificent terraced rice fields and sloping garden. Here guests can unwind and soak up the atmosphere on the sofa or daybed adorned with Indian embroidered cushions under the villa’s alang-alang (grass thatch) roof. This area is fan-cooled and also catches the gentle breeze, keeping it pleasantly fresh; it’s the perfect place for dining or entertaining to the accompaniment of the surround-sound stereo.

Step down from the living area into the beautifully manicured tropical garden and sloping lawns. The curved infinity pool, tiled in soft green Balinese stone, mixes seamlessly with the surroundings and captures the full-day sun. Two adorable thatched balés sprinkled with colourful cushions sit next to the pool.

The three enchanting bedrooms are decorated shabby-chic style, overlook the garden and are filled with the sweet scented aroma of freshly picked flowers. The master bedroom, located upstairs, features recycled floor boards and a four-poster king-size bed with a lovely antique silk inlay sewn into its mosquito net. The room is equipped with a large flat-screen satellite TV and DVD player, iPod dock and a bookcase filled with a variety of books to browse through on the comfortable sofa. The small ensuite shower room is accentuated with a curtain of beaded shells and a window overlooking the garden’s huge mango tree. A balcony, furnished with a large cane chair, is accessed by two beautifully carved sliding doors.

Both bedrooms downstairs have queen-size brass beds and wooden shutters opening onto a small balcony hung with embroidered hammocks to catch the sun. They are similar in style, however only one offers a flat-screen satellite TV with DVD player (note there is no TV in the living room) and has a single shower in its ensuite, whereas the other has twin basins and a double shower. Both of these bathrooms are semi-outdoor

All the bedrooms offer the choice of air conditioning or ceiling fan, feature delicate linens, mosquito nets and embroidered lace adornments.

A country-style kitchen with informal dining area is found at the rear of the villa behind the living/dining room – a great place to have a cup of tea and chat to the friendly staff. To the side of the kitchen is a small lawn area with another cute little balé.
