Nirwana Golf Villas - Villa Bunda
The architectural style and landscaping of Villa Bunda are both unmistakeably Balinese; a traditional carved entrance gate, a high thatched roof and a beautiful tropical garden with Hindu shrine give this away. However, as soon as you step indoors it’s clear that there are other Asian influences at work. Although there are a number of cabinets, wardrobes and side tables from noted local outlets such as Warisan and Vinoti, plus walls topped with Indonesian art and artefacts, Chinese pieces also feature prominently in both fabric and furnishings throughout the villa. The living room, especially, feels very Oriental in its décor, design and confident red colour scheme.
Plentiful living space over two floors work well for large groups, whilst the thatched balé (gazebo) in the garden offers a serene location for socialising. Bunda is very family friendly, although it would also suit a group of friends. The staff of four includes a cook who can prepare meals for you (at cost price) or assist you should you wish to self-cater. The hotel restaurants are the only option for eating out locally, and if you don’t even feel like leaving the villa, you can order from the hotel’s room service menu which will then be delivered, by golf buggy, direct to your door.

Flanking the entrance into Villa Bunda are a pair of fish ponds that serenely welcome you into the property; cross the threshold – an impressive wide antique carved temple doorway - and you arrive in a spacious hallway with polished terrazzo underfoot. Textured stone steps to the first floor are directly ahead whilst two bedrooms, a fully equipped western-style kitchen and an open-plan living and dining room are accessed to either side. On the first floor are two more bedrooms as well as a second, open-sided, living space with high thatched roof.
Each of Bunda’s four colour-themed, air conditioned, double bedrooms comes with beautifully dressed beds – three king-size and one twin – easy chairs, silk drapes, side tables, carved cabinets, flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations. Subtle artwork and interesting artefacts highlight bedrooms, three of which come with ensuite bathrooms finished in smooth terrazzo and hot water showers. The bathroom for the fourth (downstairs) bedroom is adjacent – also with shower. The first floor master bedroom comes with a four-poster bed whilst the two bedrooms on the ground floor both have sliding doors onto their own private tropical courtyard gardens.
Sliding doors from the main living room open widely on two sides to the tropical garden and swimming pool beyond. This large air-conditioned open-plan space effectively divides into four zones: a lounge area with satellite TV, DVD player and Bose sound system; a dining area with table for eight; a sumptuous second sitting area with sofas; and finally a more solitary area with matching red easy chairs. On the first floor, under a soaring thatched roof, is a more informal living area with a second dining table and TV lounge. A washroom is also conveniently located here.
In the garden just beside the swimming pool is a traditional balé with circular dining table for six offering an alternative location for daytime treats.
