C2 Residence

Three standalone villas (named Dream, Joy and Smile) – but slide back the huge wooden connecting walls to reveal a modern 8-bedroom residence with meranti wood floors, vaulted ceilings and lazy overhead fans. The C2 Residence ultra-modern façade hides an oasis perfect for a large group seeking the benefits of a central Seminyak location (five minutes’ walk to the beach and five minutes’ walk to the shops and restaurants on Jalan Laksmana) with the luxury and service of a private villa. Spread over 1600sqm, each of the three villas has a lounge/diner with open-plan kitchen attached – large enough to accommodate the whole group but intimate enough for break out groups to relax in comfort. Floor to ceiling glass doors slide back to create a generous central indoor/outdoor space dominated by the three swimming pools and dotted with wood sundecks, outside sofas, chairs and shady umbrellas, and a bale (gazebo) perfect for open-air massages. Curious statues and art forms in the garden (one in the pool itself), with large paintings and low slung chandeliers above the chunky wood dining tables, give C2 an enjoyable eccentric air. This feeling is accentuated at night when the staff turn on the mood lighting and giant bowls glow with flickering flames – magical, especially with the stars twinkling in the sky above.

The majority of the eight double bedrooms (all ensuite and air-conditioned) open directly onto the central garden through patio doors. One converts to a media room with adjacent spa room. Whilst each villa has a modern equipped kitchen, the staff tend to use the service kitchen off the first villa. This is the discrete waiting area for the fleet of six smiling butlers, cleaners, cooks (food is on guests account) and security, all under the watchful eye of the villa supervisor. These staff will happily guide guests to the beach, to iconic restaurants like Ku De Ta and to Jalan Laksmana, through the maze of lanes around this popular residential area. So as not to disturb fellow guests after an excellent night on the town, each villa has a separate entrance.

The C2 Residence is shaped in the form of a capital ‘E’. Each arm of the ‘E’ is a large combined lounge/diner/kitchen, one for each of the three villas. Tall vaulted ceilings with overhead fans (no air-conditioning), modern appliances from large flat-screen TVs, iPod players and fully equipped kitchens (microwaves, coffee machines, American size fridges, etc) are pretty much standard in each villa, along with free WiFi. Large solid dining tables that seat 12 to 14 comfortably are dominated by low-slung chandeliers; lighting throughout has dimmer switches to adjust the mood, and an eclectic mix of big bold paintings liven the walls. Floor to ceiling patio doors slide back to reveal three swimming pools (one for each villa) set in small high-walled gardens with deck space and relaxing outside seating areas. Between each pool huge wooden walls can be slid closed (fully or partially) to offer privacy to the villas (which can be rented individually).

Down the spine of the ‘E’ are the eight bedrooms, all kings with air-conditioning, TVs and ensuite shower rooms (some with both inside and outside showers for an added tropical feel). The two master bedrooms also include large bath tubs, one in striking granite and one in grey terrazzo. One of the other bedrooms doubles as a media room with a large day/night bed – great for lounging in front of a movie. Attached is an ensuite which also adapts itself nicely, this time to a spa room complete with special spa tub and massage table. Most of the bedrooms open out directly onto the gardens through sliding patio doors, those that do not (the two master bedrooms and the media bedroom) open onto their respective lounge/dining rooms.

Each villa has its own private entrance, but when used as a single residence the main entrance is through large carved double doors at the base of the ‘E’. Outside is off-street parking, an essential requirement in these tight residential lanes. Off the main entrance are the staff quarters which include the service kitchen (the domain of the in-house chef), office and laundry area.
