Samui Beach Village - Baan Chaai Haat

Baan Chaai Haat has a certain well-established feel and will therefore appeal to those looking for a more practical, traditional holiday home rather than an extravagant, luxury villa. What the residence lacks in opulence, it makes up for with functionality and peace. The quiet beachfront location is ideal for families because children can safely play to their hearts' content, easily supervised. The villa's free-form swimming pool and sun terrace also provide the perfect base for cooling dips and daytime relaxation. Basic but comfortable furnishings leave plenty of space inside the villa to gather for meals or slouch in front of a DVD. The bedrooms are all relatively self-contained, so even as part of a group you can slip off for an afternoon snooze or an early night without being disturbed.

With an outdoor dining terrace overlooking the sea, beachside barbecues are certainly on the agenda. The rate includes a healthy continental breakfast and the well-managed range of services at Samui Beach Village allows you to choose from total self-sufficiency through to room service meals or a more pampered stay, complete with private chef and in-villa massage treatments. Housekeepers visit twice a day and there's a guest relations manager on call to deal with special requests.

Staying in a gated, private development means not having to worry about security, and resort-style services like tour bookings and car hire make life easy. Although the surroundings are somewhat less elegant than at some of the more expensive, stand-alone villas on the island, Baan Chaai Haat is an affordable, personalised alternative to booking several rooms in a hotel or resort.
Strolling along the beach in the evening is a rare pleasure. The views out across the bay are magnificent and the sunsets will inspire you to always keep your camera handy.

The main entrance to Baan Chaai Haat leads to a small driveway in front of the pool. On entering the villa you are struck by its mature, homely feel. The living and dining areas are the first point of reference. The large, rectangular dining table is made from dark wood and sits directly in front of a set of sliding doors. Behind the dining area an L-shaped neutral-coloured sofa with comfortable cushions faces a large plasma screen television and DVD over a low wooden coffee table. Two more sets of sliding doors lead outside: one set opens onto the pool deck and the other leads onto an outside terrace with a round wooden dining table seating six, and steps from there straight onto the beach. The kitchen, although open to the dining and living areas, is a self-contained space a big step lower down. It features pale wooden cabinets, an oven, microwave, dishwasher and other modern amenities.

The master bedroom is to the front-left of the living room and has a king-size bed and an ensuite with a jacuzzi bathtub big enough for two. One side of the room comprises large sliding glass doors that open out onto the lawn. This is a very light, airy room and also features Thai artifacts and contemporary Thai artwork on the walls. Two more bedrooms are located down a short hallway. Both have queen beds, spacious wardrobes, ceiling fans as well as air conditioning, and ensuite bathrooms with rain showers and small skylights which let the natural light in. The fourth bedroom (also a queen) is smaller than the other three and situated behind the living room. It opens onto a private terrace behind the property. This room doesn’t have an ensuite but does have access to the adjacent guest washroom.

Outside, sandstone terracing surrounds the free-form, blue-tiled swimming pool and comfortable sun loungers look out over the ocean, just a few metres away.
