Ayara Surin - Villa Chan Grajang

Chan Grajang provides liberal servings of space, seclusion and extravagance throughout the two levels of its main villa and guest villa, with enough playthings to keep the whole family amused. Inspiring views across Surin and Bang Tao bays beckon from most rooms and from the two-tier terrace, while inside is a retreat of welcoming luxury with plush white sofas, teak and other woods adding warmth to the floors, vaulted ceilings and furnishings.

Being in this sleek and sturdy villa is like cruising on a luxury super-yacht in the sky. Distinctive natural design pieces – driftwood sculptures, coral and rustic carved wood furnishings – add character and a tropical beach feel. Extensive use of glass and clear acrylic along the entire front and sides of most rooms, as barriers on the terrace, and even stretching out along the floor in the grand front entrance hall, enhance the sense of light, spaciousness and connection to the outdoors.

Sunny relaxation is assured with extensive terracing spanning the front of the villa's top floor and a 22m infinity pool lined with comfy sun beds. Three of four bedrooms in the main villa stand in separate pavilions while an additional two bedrooms are housed in the guest villa which features its own 10m pool and luxurious kitchen-living area. The living and dining areas, which open out to the well-furnished terrace, offer an incredible space for entertaining. A modern fitness room, media room with study, and games room featuring a snooker table and bar, offer a terrific range of indoor delights, while stretching out below is an expansive lawn with a unique three-hole pitch-and-putt green, great fun for kids and adults alike. Setting the right mood is easy with first-class audio-visual systems throughout.

A capable villa manager leads a team of live-in plus full-time support staff keeping the villa in top condition and seeing to your every need: from meals to massages to organising excursions. The full-time chef prepares Thai and Western meals from the menu or according to guests' request and also organises provisioning – food is charged at cost plus 20 percent.

The villa rests on more than 4000sqm of land at the top of the exclusive Ayara Hilltops estate, offering total peace and privacy, and Surin Beach is only a five-minute walk across the road from the estate's entrance.

Sea views can be savoured from nearly all rooms within the two-level main villa and guest villa. The top floor of the main villa features a large living room with sumptuous white plush furniture and, on the other side of a central staircase, a dining room furnished with a stunning rustic-wood table for ten, plus a western kitchen, all in a style that could be described as 'idle luxury'. In front, the two-tier terrace provides an immense space for relaxation and entertaining: four clusters of cushioned teak loveseats and an outdoor dining table on the top tier offer enough seating for two-dozen guests. The lower tier is home to the swimming pool, with a row of eight fabulous sunbeds lining the deck (actual beds, pushed together to make four plush double beds), and a sala (gazebo) providing a shaded massage area at the foot of the pool.

Entertainment delights continue downstairs, starting in the welcoming games room with a three-quarter-sized snooker table, a host of board games, a well-equipped bar and a full complement of audio-visual equipment. Walls lined with classic movie posters add a touch of Hollywood glamour. More media offerings are found in the TV room, a nautical-themed space with sturdy old ship cogs and wheels adorning its walls that features a 50-inch TV and DVD player, plus a study for quieter enjoyment. Next up is the gym, which has an A/V system of its own, plus charts to guide one to wellness courtesy of a good range of exercise equipment.

Each bedroom is a splendid haven of privacy, regardless of its location, with four having their own furnished deck space. The large master suite with a super-king-sized bed sits in its own pavilion above the main villa, while two more bedrooms – the upstairs one with a king-sized bed and the other with twins – are housed in a two-level pavilion at the front corner. Another twin-bedded bedroom is found downstairs next to the TV room, while the remaining two bedrooms are in the guest villa, complete with its own snazzy kitchen, living area and 10m pool. The upstairs room, next to the pool, features a super-king-sized bed while the downstairs bedroom has a king-sized bed. All six bedrooms feature a very roomy, lustrous black marble ensuite bathroom, with the four larger rooms enjoying double bathtubs. Unusual yet delightful LED strip lighting lines the floor perimeters of most bedrooms, while two feature TVs with DVDs and iPod docks.
