Jimbaran Alamanda - Colonial Cottage
This is a place that offers sea-side serenity and contemporary-colonial coastal cool, an all-white palate, minimal décor and an abundance of light and space. Perfect for two friends, two couples or a small family, the indoor/outdoor design of the villa will remind you that you’re in the tropics, while the furnishings and fixtures will pinpoint your position as Bali. Dine poolside at a Dutch-colonial-inspired table under a soaring thatched roof, step through a pair of rustic Balinese mountain doors, traverse the marble bathroom and take a shower under the sky.
Later, walk barefoot ‘twixt the coconut trees to a small door in the garden wall, cross a quiet narrow road, and feel the soft sand between your toes before you melt into the clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
Luxury living at the Colonial Cottage comes with a team of staff who share duties at all three of the Jimbaran Alamanda villas, including personal butlers, a terrific chef and a driver and car (half day included in the rate). Instead of preparing meals from a menu, the staff will do the grocery shopping (on guest account plus a 20% service charge) and the chef will cook delicious meals and barbeques according to your whims.

A single-storey, two-bedroom villa built around an L-shaped swimming pool, the Colonial Cottage is contemporary-colonial in style. It has a modern feel to it, yet still embraces the classic Bali style with its thatched alang-alang roof supported by robust circular pillars, neutral tones and antique Balinese doors. The 18m pool features a timber decked area furnished with two sunbeds on wheels, and this is surrounded by a sizeable garden dotted with palms and, in particular, a flame tree, which looks beautiful when it is in flower during the rainy season.
On the stone terrace next to the pool is an open-air dining room, sheltered by a soaring roof, furnished with a circular marble-topped table and four chairs and lit by a hanging bell-jar lantern. Also poolside, is an open sitting area under a flat ceiling, furnished with a cushioned sofa, a pair rattan planter chairs and a tiny tea table.
The kitchen is linked to the dining area by a wide hatch, with another glassless hatch on the other outside wall, making it light and cool with natural cross ventilation. Decorated in crisp white, this roomy kitchen is equipped with a four-burner hob, microwave, fridge and plenty of cupboards.
There are two lovely big air-conditioned bedrooms at the Colonial Cottage, both with terrazzo floors, huge wall mirrors, desks, fitted wardrobes, and king-size four-poster beds draped in snowy netting. Each is equipped with a satellite-channel TV and one has a DVD player. The rooms are accessed via glass doors from the pool terrace, and one has access to a private garden. Upon entering the ensuite bathrooms, the contemporary meets the traditional via Balinese doors – one pair is modern and the other antique with an ornately-carved frame. Each bathroom is fashioned in coffee-coloured marble with a cream Jogja stone floor, and fitted with an indoor bathtub and an open-air rainshower in a courtyard enclosed with random-rock walls.
