Villa Elang

Cocooned within Seminyak’s Sentosa Villas Estate, Elang is ideally and securely located for all things, chic, hip and fashionable and yet remains an absolute haven of tranquillity, affording the best of both worlds. This villa is all about cool: cool colonial-style architecture, white shuttered windows, pale lime-washed furniture and white cane and rattan chairs, all accented with splashes of vibrant colour in the form of cushions, bed runners and floral displays. And then there’s the two (yes, two) enticingly fresh swimming pools set within the tropical landscaped gardens.

In the main open-sided living area white columns support a high tiled roof above a comfortable seating area, an impressive dining table for ten and a modern, well-equipped, open-plan kitchen with a bench-height breakfast bar. The five bedrooms, with flexible bed configurations, are cleverly arranged in a U shape at one end of the garden, looking back towards the main living pavilion. Views are of the immaculately maintained lawned gardens dotted with a perfect blend of frangipanis, slender yellow palms and a single majestic ficus tree, at the base of which sits a serene Buddha.

The villa exudes a sense of calm and tranquillity from the entrance pond and gently splashing water feature to the poolside balé (gazebo). The villa is also immaculately maintained and cared for by a well-trained team of staff who will ensure your stay is easy and enjoyable. Western, Asian and kids menus are all available, with groceries bought by the chef and charged at cost, and the villa comes with all the necessary creature comforts you would expect, from WiFi internet to satellite television, DVD player and surround-sound stereo system with iPod docks.

To help you decide which of the many excellent neighbouring restaurants, bars and spas to try first the villa has a comprehensive guide listing their favourites (also includes museums, tours and other sites), and a car and driver is available from 9am to 5pm daily for just the cost of the petrol (there’s an additional charge after that).

A 7.5m plunge pool divides the villa into two main sections; the cool open living pavilion and a bedroom wing. The elegantly furnished, colonnaded living area features intimate groups of white cane chairs overlooking the garden and main, kidney-shaped pool, whilst rattan sofa’s with vibrant cushions in reds and russet tones set around a large antique coffee table make for a comfortable entertainment area with TV, DVD and surround-sound stereo system. The other side of the living pavilion houses a five-metre-long, ten-seater, solid wood dining table overlooked by the pristine and very well-equipped open kitchen and breakfast bar. The mirrored back walls of the kitchen add further depth and light to the space. A second kitchen, where the chef prepares his delectable meals, is concealed behind.

The bedrooms are all well appointed with high-quality furnishings and linens and a wonderful selection of period prints from the Dutch colonial days of Batavia as well as carved Balinese and Javanese masks and reclaimed wood panels. The master bedroom and two of the other bedrooms have four-poster king beds draped with mosquito nets whilst a fourth downstairs bedroom can be made up as queen- or twin-bedded room. Upstairs, connected through an air conditioned TV room to the master bedroom, is a twin room, ideal for children. All the bedrooms have adequate storage space with electronic safes and attractive wooden blanket boxes at the foot of each bed, comfortable sofas or chairs, and full length mirrors.

Each one of the five ensuite bathrooms is individually designed; the focus of the master bathroom is a large free-standing terrazzo bath with a traditional carved stone panel behind, twin vanities and a powerful outdoor shower. One of the other king-bedded rooms also has a bath and generous dressing area as well as comfortable seating and a charming garden view, whilst the three remaining bedrooms all have spacious showers.
