Villa Essence

  • Location: Seminyak
  • Number of bedrooms: 3
Modern, compact and chic, Villa Essence is typical of the new villas popping up in outer Seminyak. Wedged between busy Sunset Road and Jalan Legian it is on the fringe of the main action. Despite its relative central location, the villa feels a little bit isolated, mainly because it doesn’t have any shops, restaurants or bars right on its doorstep.

Villa Essence is well designed with a lovely green-tiled swimming pool and neat living and dining area with 42-inch LCD TV. The three bedrooms are well furnished and the stonewalled and pebbled bathrooms are squeaky clean. Each bedroom is stand-alone, perfect for a group of couples holidaying together or for a small family.

The housekeeping staff are pleasant, available eight hours a day, and can also whip up a simple meal (breakfast is included) for a small fee when you want to escape the pull of highly-energised Seminyak and Legian, teaming with bars and restaurants. Another tempting alternative to self-catering is to call the 24/7 Bali Epicure luxury in-house dining and spa service. Easy access to Sunset Road means it is a quick get away to other areas on the island if you so desire.

Villa Essence isn’t your quintessential Balinese style villa oozing character or charm but it is smart, neat and comfortable. With villas going up at a rate of knots it won’t be long before Essence is part of a new neighbourhood, but for now it‘s pretty much on its own, which just means you will need to walk a bit further before you start to feel the buzz the area is famous for.

As soon as you enter this modern and stylish villa you are greeted with an opaque glass screen, set over a lotus fish pond with silhouetted bonsai tree to put you in a ‘zen’ mood.

The villa is well laid out and compact with the three bedrooms, living, kitchen and dining area strategically placed around the green-tiled 7 x 5m pool which captures the full sun. Two sun beds allow you to work on your tan, and when you’re ready for some shade there’s a funky little lounge area between two of the bedrooms where you can relax under a huge Buddha portrait.

All the private bedrooms are of the same size and all feature teak-framed sliding glass doors, high ceilings and wooden floorboards but are finished in different colour-themed stylish decor. Each room has high quality linen on its king-size bed, a 32-inch flat-screen TV and a slick silver air conditioning unit.

The bathrooms are beautifully designed and impeccably clean. Twin stone basins are set against a wide mirror while a terrazzo bath, semi-open to the elements, is surrounded by pebbles and plants. A separate rain shower encased in glass, again decorated with pebbles, features a funky square shower head. The bathrooms really ooze style with feature stone walls, Toto silver finishes and fresh white towels.

The living, kitchen and dining area are combined under one large roof, from which hang two modern lanterns: in fact the whole villa is very well lit and provides a lovely ambiance at night. The three-seater brown suede sofa looks directly out onto the pool and is the perfect place to watch a DVD on the 42-inch flat-screen TV or check your emails using the villa’s complimentary WiFi internet. A driftwood feature screens the living area from the third bedroom and, combined with the wood and steel coffee table and the solid hardwood 8-seater dining table, gives the villa a unique sense of style.

The sparkling stainless steel and black granite kitchen comes with coffee machine, blender, oven and a huge fridge – great for chilling the beer glasses.

A wash room is located off the living/dining area for visiting guests and the staff quarters are to the rear of the kitchen.
