Jivana - Villa Jia

  • Location: Natai Beach-Phang Nga
  • Number of bedrooms: 6
Villa Jia is one of the palatial Jivana Villas spread along beautiful Natai Beach in the rural, undeveloped province of Phang Nga, just north of Phuket. Of contemporary Asian design, the property is divided into a series of pavilions, rather like a traditional Balinese family compound, with the six bedrooms facing the sea across expansive palm-tree strewn gardens. A sense of space and balance is maintained throughout the villa, both in its aesthetic design and its relationship with the natural surroundings. The buildings are a discreet blend of natural woods, whitewashed walls and sliding glass doors, allowing alfresco living cooled by the fresh sea breezes or enclosed air conditioned comfort. Distinct art pieces and sculptures punctuate empty spaces – the owner is obviously an art lover and Villa Jia reflects understated charm and good taste. In the guest rooms black and white photography brings life to the walls with scenes from the property and the region set in series.

Villa Jia’s ocean-front setting provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxed break away from city life. And to ensure guests do indeed get a holiday, a team of full-time villa staff, prepare meals (chef service is charged extra and should be arranged at least 3 days prior to arrival), shop for groceries (on guest account) and keep the property shipshape. This allows ample time to enjoy the great facilities on offer, including (unique among the three Jivana Villas - the others being Villa Shanti and Villa Ananda) a basement home-cinema and games room with massive plasma screen TV, projector and sound system, as well as a pool table and dart board, bicycles, kayaks, table tennis and one of the biggest villa pools we’ve seen in a long time – the black-tiled, 25m lap pool, bordered by comfortable daybeds, is the place for a relaxing holiday read or a snooze under a shady umbrella. A few short strides through the tropical garden, past the beach-side relaxation sala, lead to the extensive sands of Natai Beach and the inviting waters of the Andaman Sea.

Entry to the villa passes a cascading water feature and reflective pool. On the right, a family room with sofas facing a TV/DVD system also features a computer with all-in-one fax/copier/printer for those with business to attend to. Servicing this room is a guest bathroom and a small bar area, with wine fridge full of champagne and chilled vintages. Hidden beneath the family room, down a carpeted stairwell, lies the home cinema and games room – perfect to entertain a large group should the skies open.

To the left of the entrance, the villa’s large kitchen features all the equipment you’d expect from a modern cooking station, but this domain is best left to the villa’s very capable chef. In between the kitchen and family room, the ‘Great Room’ forms the focal point of the property. This lofty-ceilinged, luxuriously furnished living space can be opened to the elements or closed for air conditioned comfort. The square wooden dining table is large enough to comfortably seat ten people.

Six double bedrooms are housed in two further pavilions each side of the living areas, mirroring each other and differing only in bed configuration. On one side is a king-bedded room with views over the garden to the ocean. A flat-screen TV, DVD player and iPod dock provide the entertainment, and a large bathroom to the rear offers a tub, rain shower and twin sinks. Across the patio is an identically presented room, but with twin beds. In the third pavilion two king-size bedrooms feature bathrooms with outdoor black granite tubs, rain showers and twin sinks but no TVs. Set behind the front-facing rooms of each sleeping pavilion, two further bedrooms (one king-bedded and one twin-bedded) offer garden views. Both have ensuite bathrooms with indoor tubs, twin sinks and showers.

The impressive 25m black-tiled lap pool (with a shallower children’s pool in front) dominates the garden space. At one end lies an open-air dining sala while at the other is an outdoor sitting area. Where the green lawns meet the white sands of Natai Beach a relaxation sala provides the perfect place for early morning yoga or a beach-side massage.
