Jimbaran Alamanda Villa

Jimbaran Alamanda Villa is all about space and privacy. Sited on one hectare of virtually beachfront land at Jimbaran Bay, the owner came up trumps when he acquired this gem. This huge estate houses three villas – the three-bedroomed Colonial Suite, two-bedroomed Colonial Cottage, and the one-bedroomed Colonial Hut.

Entering the property via its imposing gates is like coming upon the opening credits of Magnum PI. A sandy driveway leads over a wooden humpback bridge spanning a blooming lotus pond before reaching the parking area where you will be warmly welcomed by a crew of smiling staff. Tall trees and coconut palms characterise the gardens, while mature bougainvillea, the namesake alamanda and passionflowers creep determinedly along the walls and pergolas. These expansive gardens are ideal for weddings and parties, and Jimbaran Alamanda is a great destination for large groups when all three villas are taken together (there are plenty of extra beds available too). The villas can also be mixed and matched to suit requirements, each one being self-contained with its own garden and pool. The Colonial Suite is perfect for a family; the charming Colonial Hut is honeymoon heaven, and the Colonial Cottage is good for either a small family or two couples.

The architecture blends neo-colonial Dutch style with Balinese elements, complete with an abundance of shady verandas, terraces and gazeboes – some with ocean views – while the garden of the Colonial Suite supports a vast swimming pool guarded by stone tortoises spouting fountains of water while balancing flower pots on their backs.

Luxury holiday living at Jimbaran Alamanda comes with a team of staff that share the duties for all three villas. They include personal butlers, a terrific chef and a driver and car (half day included in the rate). Instead of preparing meals from a menu, the staff will do the grocery shopping (they charge a 20% fee for the service) and the chef will cook delicious meals and barbeques according to the whims of the guests.

With the added bonus of a garden gate leading out across a quiet road to Jimbaran Beach, Bali’s most serene and family-friendly patch of sand, Jimbaran Alamanda is one of the most superbly-located and versatile properties on the island.

Jimbaran Alamanda Villa is comprised of the two-storey, three-bedroom Colonial Suite, flanked by the single-storey, two-bedroom Colonial Cottage on one side and the two-storey, one-bedroom Colonial Hut on the other. Each villa is private and self-contained with its own kitchen, private garden and swimming pool, yet all three are linked by doors in the garden walls and share a majestic coconut-grove garden – ideal for weddings and parties.

The villas’ design presents soaring alang-alang thatched roofs, teakwood fixtures, white tiled floors, cream walls, grand pillars and marble bathrooms. Spacious rooms are filled with colonial-style furnishings and lit by bell-jar lanterns. Each air conditioned bedroom is equipped with a satellite-channel TV/DVD player, and furnished with a king-size netted bed. One of the beds in the Colonial Suite can be converted to twins; in fact, almost any bed configuration can be arranged and numerous extra beds are available. All but one of the ensuite bathrooms is partially open-air, and all have bathtubs and standing rain showers. Facilities also include free WiFi internet access.

What makes this group of villas really special are the open-air living and dining areas, which can be found upon terraces, balconies, and under shady bougainvillea-draped pergolas, bordered by coralline-limestone random-rock walls and old stone pots brimming with impala lilies. The Colonial Suite boasts a large living/dining room on the upper level, furnished with a marble dining table (seats 10), sofa and TV/DVD player upon a floor crafted from old Javanese tiles. Wrapped around this is a terracotta-tiled balcony with a covered sitting area and views of the sea. There's also a non-air conditioned loft, suitable for a child or nanny. The Colonial Hut features a cavernous open-sided living/dining pavilion under a high, vaulted roof and an upper sundeck with ocean views. Above the bedroom is a mezzanine room (perfect for a child). The Colonial Cottage follows the same architectural theme yet is more contemporary in style, with open-air living around an L-shaped pool. The extensive gardens of each villa are colourful, and the swimming pools are large. A balé relaxation pavilion at the Colonial Suite offers yet another spot to chill out.
