Villa Kalyani

Party people rejoice! Villa Kalyani is definitely a leading contender for the crown of ‘Best Party Villa in Bali’. Built on a generous piece of land that could easily have housed two separate dwellings, the owners have created something large and beautiful to cater for the in-crowd. Five bedrooms, while not all equal in size, do give everyone their own place to mellow out. There are twelve – count them – different chill zones including two bars and five lounges (one with pool table), and two outdoor double-sun lounger decks. It’s lucky Villa Kalyani is so open or else you would never be able to find your friends!

The attention to detail shows the owners’ dedication to perfection. Villa Kalyani has all the amenities of a five-star hotel right down to the customised bathroom products. The furnishings and linens are of the highest quality, the lawns are trimmed, the garden lighting is extraordinary, the paintings showcase Indonesian artists, and even the felt on the pool table is tan-coloured to match the décor.

The villa is definitely wired for sound, with a specially-built DJ booth just to show how serious this place is about providing good times. There are speakers everywhere apart from the bedrooms: the gazebos, the bars, the lounges – even the 'rocks' next to the sun loungers by the pool have woofers hidden inside them! And a mammoth outdoor video screen provides party visuals and after dark Nintendo Wii sessions. But Kalyani isn’t just about hi-tech homage, life’s more simple pleasures are recognised too: there’s nothing quite like a barefoot amble on the grass and the sparkling 22m pool is surrounded on three sides by the lovely stuff.

A team of eight discreet staff, including a manager and three butlers will tend to your every need. The menu at Kalyani reads like something from the Michelin Guide and can be tailored to meet guests’ preferences by the villa’s ex-Warisan chef (Kafé Warisan being one of Bali’s most enduring gastronomic legends). Provisions are on guest account.

Kalyani is perfect for kicking back and hanging loose and also works well as a family villa, but it really comes into its own as the ultimate holiday venue for hip young things (of all ages!).

Three of the five air conditioned bedrooms are housed in the main villa building; two master rooms on the upper floor and one guest room on the ground floor. Two more guest suites are located in a self-contained pavilion complete with open-air living room, kitchenette and 7m plunge pool; one of the ensuite bathrooms here has a bathtub resting in a lily pond. All bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds (one of which can be converted to twin beds) and each has a satellite-channel TV/DVD player. Ensuite bathrooms all have non-slip Indian slate floors and walk-in rain showers. One master bathroom boasts an enormous (almost two square metre) bathtub beside a private rooftop garden.

The air conditioned dining room overlooks the garden and has a solid wood table for 12 bordered by concertina glass doors that can be fully opened. To one side is a bar and open-sided playroom, equipped with a pool table and large sofa. The state-of-the-art, air conditioned home theatre is characterised by dark red walls and equipped with a 130-inch screen, supported by surround-sound and a projector for showing movies and satellite TV channels. Nintendo Wii is also available. This room doubles as an extra bedroom with two sofa beds. Next to the home theatre is the open-sided living room furnished with comfy sofas, while the garden bar - complete with bar stools, armchairs and a DJ Booth - extends down to the poolside. A sunken garden balé (gazebo) next to the pool deck presents another lounge area. Guests can sit here in comfort and watch movies on the massive 250-inch outdoor cinema screen.

There are two rooftop decks offering fabulous views. One is great for parties or for enjoying the sunset, while the other is for sunbathing or chilling out on double daybeds or the romantic ‘floating’ swing bed, which gently rocks its occupants. The fully-equipped professional kitchen is crafted in gleaming white marble with a central island and ample storage.

Finally, the expansive garden comprises a flat lawn punctuated with towering coconut palms. The central feature is the sparkling 22m swimming pool, which incorporates a shallow area suitable for kids. The pool deck is furnished with three double daybeds, while the ambience at night is enhanced by a firebowl.
