Ban Lealay
Despite the unashamedly modern architecture, gentle interior touches create a homely feel at Ban Lealay with hand-picked Asian art and accessories adding to the relaxed ambience. You can spend an entire day drifting from the comfortable living, dining and kitchen space to your sunbed on the wide pool terrace, or simply recline in the covered sala (gazebo) enjoying the spectacular views and sea breezes. If you’re not a committed sun worshipper, the lounge is a particularly pleasant place to kick back with your laptop (free WiFi) and also perfect for evening gatherings.
For more reclusive types, the spacious upper level master suite is a very private haven. But there's no need for other guests to feel jealous as each of the three double bedrooms is pleasantly roomy and, although the twin room is more compact, it is ideal for friends sharing or for teenagers. Every room offers sea views right from the bed and the well-designed ensuite bathrooms make bathing an added pleasure, especially in one of the three sea-view bath tubs.
The helpful staff at Ban Lealay go the extra mile. A tasty continental breakfast is included, but they will happily prepare a more filling morning feast if you buy the ingredients from the local supermarket, or will even do the shopping for you for a modest fee. At lunch time, if you don’t fancy making your own, the manageress can send someone out to buy a tasty Thai take away from one of the local restaurants down the hill. Then in the evenings, you can spoil yourself by hiring a private chef (service and provisions on guest account) or rent a vehicle for the short – but steep – drive to a good choice of beachside dining and drinking options in Bo Phut.

Steps lead down from the car park to a heavy wooden door that opens straight onto a wrap-around terrace with panoramic sea views. Three bedrooms sit on the upper level: one guest double (king), one twin and an expansive master suite (king) with a lounge area and private dressing room. All boast attractive pan-Asian decor and open directly onto hillside and coastal vistas. The bedrooms are all air conditioned and have satellite TV/DVDs, built-in wardrobes and large ensuite bathrooms. The doubles feature walk-in showers and sea-view terrazzo bathtubs, while the twin has a glass-doored shower room.
Two steep, stone-washed staircases lead down from the bedroom level to the poolside terrace and living/dining/ kitchen area. The air conditioned living/dining space is furnished with a soft, six-seater, L-shaped sofa and large coffee table, plus a wooden dining table with eight leather-weave chairs. There's also a well-equipped kitchen (with fridge freezer, oven and branded accessories), behind which is a guest bathroom. Indoor plants soften the modern interiors, black-out curtains offer daytime shade and a large mirror reflects the pool, sky and ocean views.
Floor-to-ceiling doors in the living space open onto a generous pool terrace with four loungers overlooking an attractive 12m infinity pool that pours into the horizon. A sunken lounge sala with comfortable, built-in sofa and central table is positioned at the right-hand corner of the terrace. To the left of the pool, the fourth (king) bedroom and its ensuite bathroom mirror the upstairs double guest bedroom, its terrace extending into a private balcony space.
A staircase behind the lounge leads to the villa's two lower levels. The first houses the staff quarters, as well as a sea view sauna and separate steam room. Below that, there's a well-equipped gym (with music system) offering similarly spectacular sea views, and a staff kitchen.
