Baan Thai Surin Hill - Baan Lom Talay
The villa’s other shared spaces: the media room, kitchen and dining room, are also steeped in luxury and comfort, though with Thai and Asian tropical flavours. Three king-bedded rooms, including two master suites, and a fourth bedroom with twin beds (perfect for the kids) each feature opulent ensuite bathrooms with sunken bathtubs. Design details throughout are exquisite, from the huge chandeliers hanging in the stairwells to intricately carved wooden doors to Buddha statues and paintings.
Two full-time maids take care of the housekeeping, and will prepare the occasional meal on request (for an extra charge) and a detailed in-villa guide book offers a host of recommendations for car hire, dining, golf, shopping and tours. The villa lies within the Baan Thai Surin Hill private estate, and villa guests are welcome to use the estate's clubhouse with its tennis courts and a gym, as well as its shuttle service to the beach, free of charge. Surin Beach, with its inviting sands and excellent range of restaurants, spas and shops, is less than a kilometre away.

With rooms spread out in separate pavilions over three levels, there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy both private moments and fun holiday time with the family. The villa's fabulous top-floor dining room with seating for 12 features floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides for a fantastic 270-degree view. The modern kitchen next to it is an ideal gathering spot for breakfast with its centre island and seating for four. The media room next door to the kitchen features state-of-the-art audio and visual entertainment delights hidden behind a sliding painted wall panel depicting some mischievous characters, evocative of a Thai temple mural. A shiny black grand piano sits in the corner of the room for those who may wish to tickle the ivories.
The master bedroom is also up on the top level, in a separate pavilion with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor jacuzzi bathtub, ideal for relaxing while taking in the incredible sea views. Two more king-bedded rooms: a poolside master suite and the 'Spa' bedroom a few steps away from the pool, are just as lavish and spacious as the top-floor master, and both have sunken bathtubs in their ensuite bathrooms. The twin-bedded fourth bedroom, the Garden Sala, is tucked away at the back in its own pavilion, with a large private terrace leading to an outdoor bathtub and garden area.
Stretching across the middle level back from the pool is a covered outdoor living area with two sets of sofas, a cosy study equipped with a good range of media and office equipment, and a bar. A large sala (Thai pavilion) at the foot of the pool provides more shaded lounging space, and there's an outdoor dining table just beside it.
The Moroccan room downstairs really takes the villa's 'wow' factor to greater heights. Swathed in North African-style carpets, furniture and lighting, descending into this room is like entering a bejewelled, luxury oasis. Inside, there's a pool table set by an opulent daybed. The exotic bathroom has dazzling coloured lights over a bronze sink and a Hammam-style shower. The outdoor living space is furnished in Hookah lounge style, featuring a colourful 15m built-in shisha couch.
