Samsara Estate - Villa Lomchoy
To the right of the property a small wood highlights the privacy and seclusion and this natural theme is continued throughout the villa’s interior design with wooden art pieces and sculptures blending effortlessly with a tasteful mixture of classical and modern Thai and Chinese art. Period photographs of Bangkok and Shanghai add some old world charm while vivid colours in silk and fabric give each room an individual touch. In the study, family portraits of the owners add a personal feel to the surroundings.
Despite being an ode to alfresco living, with sliding French windows offering 180 degree ocean views as they open the entire living area onto the terrace, the villa is easily converted to air conditioned comfort should the weather change, with a surround-sound stereo, complimentary WiFi and a flat-screen TV available for indoor entertainment.
Villa Lomchoy is fully serviced by a live-in housekeeper and a chef. Western and Thai food is prepared according to a menu and provisioning can be done for you (on guest account). There are two kitchens so if guests want to experiment with some local ingredients they are welcome to do so. A guest relations officer takes care of requests from the most mundane to the more extravagant; babysitting, tee times, in-villa massages, island tours, helicopter rides, firework displays and yacht charters, to name but a few. Despite the villa’s secluded location, there are swimming beaches nearby whilst golf courses and shopping malls are within a 30-minute drive.

The villa is entered from the third floor along a path set between pools of tropical fish which leads into a small hallway adorned with Asian art. A spiral staircase leads down to the main living area which opens out onto the pool terrace where two outdoor tables provide dining options for intimate couples or groups of up to eight. The living area’s interior is bathed in natural light, due to the tall glass windows and high ceilings. Beyond, past the stairs descending to the bedrooms, the guest kitchen is well equipped for those who want to self-cater; otherwise the chef has his own kitchen conveniently out of sight. The open-plan design continues into the dining area, where eight can comfortably enjoy meals when not eating alfresco on the pool terrace. Past the dining room, a large study offers a computer and small selection of reading material for those who forgot to pick something up at the airport.
Down the stairs to the bottom level lies a large landing area with sofa and cushions, ideal for an afternoon snooze or a quiet read. In the adjoining television room, a large flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a DVD player provide all the entertainment you might need. The four bedrooms lie along the corridor of this floor, each facing out over a terrace to the garden and the sea below. The master bedroom at the end offers a king-size bed with TV and killer view of the headland and ocean, with banana and frangipani trees completing the idyllic scene. Choose between a moonlit jacuzzi, outdoor shower or sunken tub in the ensuite bathroom, separated from the bedroom with a modesty curtain. Twin glass sinks, black tiles and a beautiful intricately carved wooden art piece deliver a stylish but simple bathroom space. At the other end of the corridor, the second bedroom offers a king-size bed with smaller ensuite bathroom, complete with single sink and tub with shower. In between, the two remaining smaller rooms share a large bathroom with bathtub, separate shower and twin sinks, and offer a choice of twin or queen beds.
