Villa Maria

  • Location: Nai Harn
  • Number of bedrooms: 5
Villa Maria is a big five-bedroom holiday home thoughtfully designed to offer families and groups a nice balance of private and shared spaces; formality and fun over two levels. A mix of rooms with king, queen and twin beds with trundles (all of which are ensuite) give guests great flexibility in terms of sleeping arrangements. Three of the bedrooms, including the elaborate master suite, are on the top floor along with a formal living room and a study. The two bedrooms downstairs are attached to their own living, dining and kitchen area, and can form a self-contained suite. This floor is also ‘party central’, with a large open-plan room housing the main kitchen, dining and living areas, all opening out to the pool terrace. And the party can very easily move outdoors to the huge sala (gazebo) dining and barbecue area, 40sqm kidney-shaped pool and landscaped gardens. Back inside, there’s more fun to be had with the home theatre, Bose sound system, toys and table tennis. The villa’s modern, open design is complemented by high quality furnishings, colourful paintings and an eclectic mix of Chinese, Thai and contemporary decor and artwork.

Guests are well cared for by the live-in housekeeping staff and the non-resident villa manager, who can help organise extra services such as car rental, babysitting, massages, taxi service and tours. Complimentary services include in-villa laundry and airport transfer as well as breakfast and lunch prepared daily by the full-time cook (guests pay only for provisions at cost). Alternatively, evening meals may be arranged in place of lunch for a small extra charge.

Nai Harn, one of Phuket’s prettiest white-sand beaches, is only one kilometre away. Along the way is a public park with a children’s playground and lagoon. There are plenty of dining options at the beach and in Nai Harn village, from simple noodle shops to upscale Italian, French and other international restaurants. Those wishing to explore will love cruising these coastal roads on Phuket’s southernmost tip, which lead to some of the island’s most picturesque lookout points and lesser-known beaches.

With five ensuite bedrooms (all with air conditioning and ceiling fans), three living rooms and two kitchens spread over two levels, Villa Maria is certainly ‘roomy’ in every sense of the word. Entering the villa on the top floor from the two-car parking area, you come first to an inviting living room with brown suede sofas. With no TV to disturb the peace, this is a perfect spot for reading. This room opens onto a balcony overlooking the pool and furnished with a poly-rattan sofa and chairs (a great spot to enjoy evening cocktails). The master bedroom, with its four-poster super king-sized bed set under a vaulted ceiling, features a large walk-in wardrobe, a two-person bathtub in its ensuite and sliding glass doors that open to the wide balcony. The top floor also has a spacious twin bedroom with extra trundle beds, a balcony-facing queen-bedded room and a modest study that also opens to the balcony. Rich, warm-toned wood flooring stretches across every room on the top floor and down the wide interior staircase, enhancing the villa’s luxurious feel.

Descending to the lower floor you arrive at a huge room with a sparkling Western kitchen, a three-metre-long 12-seater dining table in chic black, and the villa’s second and largest living area. From here, glass doors on two sides open out to the pool terrace and garden. The remaining space on the lower floor is dedicated to a self-contained two-bedroom suite (one king-bedded room and the other a twin with trundles) with a smaller – yet fully-functional – equipped kitchen, a dining area for four and the villa’s third living room. Each of these rooms enjoys direct access to the terrace. Both of the lower-floor living rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs and DVD-CD players, and there’s a table tennis table that could be set up in either the living room or outside. Stretching out from the lower level is a wide sand-wash terrace, a 40sqm pool with jacuzzi, a sala furnished with an outdoor dining table and a kitchenette, and landscaped gardens with a fair-sized patch of grass for running around on. With its high walls and lush greenery, the villa feels very private and peaceful despite two neighbouring villas.
