Rumah Puro Blanco

Aside from the plants it’s difficult to find anything in- or outside Rumah Puro Blanco that doesn’t adhere to its pure white theme. The rattan and wood furniture; the high ceiling in the open-sided living area; the stone statues and carvings; the polished concrete kitchen; the two enormous L-shaped sofas – even the chandeliers and the stereo – all pure white! Not surprisingly, considering the villa’s Spanish name, the owner hails from Madrid. Here on the island of the gods he has created a heavenly Mediterranean ambience with this simple colour palate.

Breaking with the theme – albeit delightfully – the 17m lap pool reflects the turquoise blue sky overhead, creating the perfect oasis; a focal point from all the villa’s rooms, as well as a unique design feature (the property is entered across white stepping stones the length of the pool). Venturing beyond the comfort of the poolside balé (gazebo) and the funky rattan sun loungers, you reach the huge master bedroom, with its ingeniously sculptured double bath in polished concrete adjacent to the bed. This room covers the whole first floor and is nothing short of palatial. With three more spacious bedrooms overlooking the pool on the ground floor, this villa will work well for groups or a family, although it is perhaps not an ideal location for toddlers, as the unguarded walkways are close to the pool. The villa staff – two housekeepers and an accomplished chef (provisions on guest account) – are charmingly Balinese and work flexible hours to suit your needs. There is also a villa manager on hand who speaks good English.

Rumah Puro Blanco is located in the south of Canggu, only five kilometres from busy Seminyak. Rice fields to the front and rear of the villa ensure a peaceful stay and provide a majestic view from the master bedroom and the first floor balcony. Berawa Beach is only a short stroll away and is a great spot for surfers and strong swimmers to enjoy the Indian Ocean. From the balcony you can hear the sounds of waves crashing whilst lounging on a large pure white sofa.

At Rumah Puro Blanco absolutely everything is white! The living, dining and kitchen areas are situated in a high-roofed, open-sided pavilion at one end of a 17m pool. Behind a pair of funky, rattan sun loungers, two giant, L-shaped sofas sit adjacent in the living area. White wooden tables display elegant animal statues and a CD player. Up a few steps at the rear of the room is a wooden dining table (seats eight) with matching console and coffee tables nearby. Opposite is a stylish, well-equipped kitchen moulded in polished concrete, with a larger kitchen hidden in the staff quarters behind.

A daybed beckons at the opposite end of the pool in an attractive balé, while a palimanan stone terrace extends along the poolside. From the terrace large glass sliding doors open into two identical bedrooms; a staircase in between ascends to the master bedroom. Another smaller bedroom is situated beside the balé.

All bedrooms share the same characteristics in that their floors, walls, bed bases and side tables are sculpted from white-washed polished concrete. Curtains around the queen-sized beds, coupled with attractive lighting, create a romantic ambience. Glass-shelved, walk-in wardrobes (unusually with shower rooms inside), are found in the matching downstairs rooms, along with daybeds and polished concrete baths sunk into the bedroom floors. These two bedrooms also boast lush outdoor ensuites with rain showers amongst the palms. The smaller downstairs bedroom is similarly equipped, minus the daybed and bath.

At the top of the staircase, a large stylish light hangs above a glass-walled landing which divides the master bedroom in two. On one side is a giant sofa with a long coffee table and matching corner desk unit with two rattan chairs and a 32-inch flat screen television with DVD player. Behind the sofa is a small glass-walled ensuite with standing shower. On the other side of the stairway, adjacent to the queen-sized bed, lays a queen-sized bath sculpted in polished concrete and raised from the floor, next to which is a second glass-walled ensuite. Behind the bed are his-and-hers walk-in wardrobes, with water dispensers and safes. A door leads off the bedroom to the balcony with another large sofa looking out over the rice fields.
