Laksmana Estate - Villa Ramadewa

Clearly the owner of Villa Ramadewa likes to entertain - dining for anything from 4 to 24, a well stocked cellar, a chic teak and black kitchen complete with first class chef, Boss/iMac sound system throughout, and a fleet of charming butlers and waitresses. The backdrop to dinner starts at a stylish 15m swimming pool with twin Jacuzzi seats shaded by an intricately carved balé (gazebo); reaches over small lawns lined with frangipani, cempaka and breadfruit trees; and ends at the two storey pavilion which houses the 3 lavish suite bedrooms and a fully equipped office. An elegant colonnaded walkway edged with fishponds connects the two buildings. Dinner can be served air-conditioned in the combined dining and living pavilion or slide back the doors for something more open. Try the pool terraces for alfresco and for a more intimate gathering the poolside balé works well. If that’s not enough Seminyak’s broad spectrum of restaurants (and shops) are right on the villa’s doorstep. For those who over indulge, there is a small well equipped gym hidden away with its own secluded sun terrace and the beach is not 500 metres away for an early morning jog.

Villa Ramadewa is exquisitely finished in the finest Jati teak and stuffed with designer collectables gathered from all over the world by the Dutch architect, Joost van Grieken and the owner. Together they have created a modern, luxurious and comfortable interior. The stunning glass cantilevered entrance door from Japan, a pair of giant stone carved Keris or Pedangs (daggers)embedded into the lawn and The Path of the Tango – a wire sculpture down the imposing hallway all stand out. As does Joe Kennedy’s striking photo.

There are 8 staff to serve and clean 24/7 if required, led by the villa manager who is there to ensure everything runs smoothly and make any arrangements that maybe required (spa treatments or car/driver hire). The staff presence (or not) is very much determined by the guest. The chef will handle provisioning on the guests account for an additional fee and the Laksmana Estate is gated with 24 hour security.

Villa Ramadewa’s rooms are housed in two alang alang thatched pavilions sandwiching a 15m decked swimming pool and lawn area. The single story dining and living pavilion is reached via a long semi-open hallway of local Palimanan stone and whitewashed walls. Off the hallway are a large wine room, which also stores the villa’s stereo system, and a modern, fully equipped and well used kitchen. The air-conditioned pavilion’s doors slide right back to create a natural indoor/outdoor space with the pool decking. Vaulted ceilings, clean white stone floors and walls, and teak trim create a cool elegant and comfortable space.

A long covered walkway, lined with colonnades fashioned from coconut wood, fishponds and overhanging creepers leads to the two storey bedroom pavilion. Over the walkway perches a small well equipped gym with an adjacent sun terrace and small garden. The bedroom suites are dominated by the owner’s suite of rooms on the first floor. Featuring a king-sized bed, expansive bathroom with bathtub, shower and walk-in wardrobes, the bedroom is separated from a fully equipped office (including skype phone, Apple Mac and Wifi) by an open terrace and a rear connecting hallway. Downstairs the two guest suites feature queen beds, private ensuite showers and have floor to ceiling doors which open out onto the villa lawns. All the bedrooms are beautifully finished in teak woods with quality linens. Bathrooms are modern and functional with good showers and villa toiletries. TVs with cable and DVD players, IPods, mood lighting and air-conditioning are some of the bedrooms high specification features.
