The entrance to Samsara Villa 2 is designed to take guests’ breath away and quite rightly does. A path through a small garden leads to a pair of vast doors that wouldn’t look out of place on a medieval castle. Once opened, the quality of the villa’s location is immediately apparent – from the raised hallway the villa’s living areas, both inside and out are on view but, more importantly, so is an uninterrupted magnificent vista of the Andaman Sea.

The villa has been designed to provide a sense of space, with the high vaulted ceiling and open-plan living and dining area brilliantly filled with natural light. Using a modern blend of glass and wood, interiors have a clean fresh feel, with both contemporary and traditional art pieces and sculpture adding bursts of colour. The six large guest rooms are spread over three floors and all share the same breathtaking coastal views.

The living area seamlessly blends with the exterior through sliding glass doors that can either be left open to the elements or closed for air conditioned comfort: outside a brushed concrete wall gushes with scarlet blossom, focusing the eye on the startling view ahead. On the terrace, the raised sala competes with the 13m infinity pool and jacuzzi for the ideal spot to watch the sunset – most meals will undoubtedly take place outdoors (although there’s also an indoor dining area for more formal affairs).

If the heavens open temporarily, a large-screen home theatre with DVD selection is complemented by an additional TV area, an exercise room with table tennis table and a children’s games area. The villa is also wired for sound with multiple iPod docks and a central keypad-operated sound system.

The villa is fully serviced by a live-in housekeeper and a chef. Western and Thai food is prepared according to a menu and provisioning can be done for you (on guest account). A guest relations officer is on hand to take care of all requests, from the most mundane to the more extravagant. Despite the villa’s secluded location, there are swimming beaches nearby whilst golf courses and shopping malls are within a 30-minute drive.

A staircase from the entrance leads down to the L-shaped open-plan living and dining area where high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass walls optimise the panoramic ocean views. At one end, comfortable sofas and stacks of magazines provide a good space to laze and at the other, a dining table offers comfortable seating for eight. Off the living room, a home theatre features a big screen and projector, over-sized sofa, beanbags and an army of cushions.

Beyond the dining area, a guest room offers a king-size bed and foldable day-lounger, plus ensuite bathroom with tub and shower. The remaining bedrooms lie on the split-level floor below. At the bottom of the stairs, there’s an alternative sitting room, with flat-screen TV and DVD player. The master bedroom lies off this area and sports a king-size bed with wonderful ocean views through the sliding glass doors that make up two sides of the room. The view is equally impressive from the large bathtub in the ensuite bathroom, which also features twin sinks and a rain shower. There’s entertainment on-hand, with TV, DVD player and iPod dock. Next to the master bedroom, a bathroom serves both the sitting area and the exercise room, where a table tennis table and step machine should keep the active happy. Of the two bedrooms that complete this floor, one is a large children’s room with twin beds and a small separate single-bedded nanny room. The children’s room also has a games area with table football, plus a large bathroom with tub and shower. The bedroom next door offers a king-size bed with ensuite bathroom featuring rain shower and a sunken jacuzzi bathtub on the balcony.

The remaining two bedrooms are down a few stairs that lead out to the garden below. Both a good size, they offer king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms, featuring rain showers and single sinks. The first room also sports an outdoor jacuzzi bathtub while the second houses an extra twin bed for those travelling with small children.
