Nirwana Golf Villas - Villa Samudera

  • Location: Seseh-Tanah Lot
  • Number of bedrooms: 4
This villa is the stuff dreams are made of – Greg Norman’s dreams. Villa Samudera sits alongside the fairway of the 13th hole at the award-winning Nirwana Bali Golf Course (designed by the legendary golfer Greg Norman), enjoying panoramic views of the best par four in Asia and the spectacular backdrop of the Indian Ocean beyond. Indeed, ‘Samudera’ is Indonesian for ocean; and waves can be heard crashing on the beach only 50m across the fairway. The large balcony, master bedroom and ensuite are all blessed with ocean views, whilst the downstairs living area is secluded from the fairway by a grassed knoll and the tropical foliage of the garden.

This four-bedroom staffed residence is found within a sprawling gated villa complex (other villas on this estate include Villa Arjuna, Villa Senja, Ocean & Golf, Villa Bunda and Villa Ombak Nirwana), alongside Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort (formerly Le Meridien). Guests have the option of chilling out in the privacy of the villa; sunbathing by the plunge pool and relaxing in the garden balé (gazebo) whilst the chef prepares your meals or, if you're not already out on the golf course, spending an active day at the Pan Pacific Resort, which has four restaurants to choose from as well as squash, volleyball and tennis courts, a gym and swimming pools available for villa guest use (additional daily charge applies). The golf course and hotel restaurants provide breathtaking views of Tanah Lot temple; built on a rock stack in the ocean and dedicated to the sea spirits, this sacred Hindu temple provides the ultimate Kodak moment as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.

Villa Samudera is equipped with its own golf buggy, which guests can use to visit the resort, spa or club house. It’s fun and easy to drive yourself or you can sit back and be chauffeured by the villa staff who will also shop for you and cook dishes from a suggestion menu (provisions on guest account), or you can even call the hotel for room service (24 hours). Guests also have use of a swimming pool and kids pool just three minutes’ walk away – shared with the other villas within the complex.

A funky purple lounge suite sits around a 42-inch flat-screen television and home entertainment system at one side of the open-plan living area, whilst at the other a teak dining table (seats 8) is accented with purple cushions. In between, four small carvers circle a low table (ideal for a children’s dining area) in front of patio doors leading into the garden. Modern lamps and aboriginal style artwork are mixed with traditional Ikat hangings and Javanese puppets. The villa is air conditioned throughout.

The long kitchen is concealed from the living space, with shutters to serve the dining area; it is well equipped with modern appliances. Adjacent is a guest bedroom which continues the purple colour theme around its queen-size bed. Patio doors look out to the front of the villa, whilst the ensuite (with rain shower) also doubles as a guest bathroom.

Heading upstairs, a landing is furnished with two easy chairs and a desk, complete with a shredder - which may help to erase the memory of a poor round! Two guest bedrooms – one queen and one twin-bedded – are attractively but sparsely furnished (shelving, but no wardrobes or TVs). Patio doors from both rooms open onto a shared balcony with two all-weather easy chairs. The shared bathroom has double sinks and, unusually, a double shower.

In the spacious master bedroom a king-size bed is accompanied by a sofa and television with satellite channels. A large marbled ensuite also enjoys the ocean view and is equipped with a bath, standing shower and walk-in wardrobe, plus safe. Patio doors lead onto a large L-shaped balcony where a row of all weather loungers and a high table with bar stools look out over the fairway to the Indian Ocean. The balcony extends around the corner to a roofed open air lounge – the perfect spot for sunset cocktails on the comfortable stylish sofas.

The balcony also looks over the garden which extends onto the fairway, yet retains an element of privacy by clever landscaping with frangipani trees and tropical palms. Sun loungers and a small dining table are positioned beside the plunge pool (3.8 x 3.8m) along with a daybed inside a charming thatched balé.
