Villa Semarapura

  • Location: Seseh-Tanah Lot
  • Number of bedrooms: 5
Occupying a gently sloping piece of land carpeted in soft grass, fringed by tropical greenery and with an ocean view, Semarapura is a sociable villa that pool lovers, sunset seekers and pamper pusses will adore. Comprising a well-designed series of living, dining and sleeping pavilions that make the best of the spacious gardens, this is a great villa not only for an extended family or a group of friends, but also as a setting for special events*; its popularity as a venue arises from it being beautifully photogenic, very private and refreshingly serene. The balé (gazebo) at the top of the garden is notable not only for its cushioned views of the sun descending over the horizon at dusk, silhouetting the Hindu temple that sits upon rocks jutting out to sea just beyond the villa, but also as a tranquil haven for a massage or other pampering treat.

Semarapura’s five expansive bedrooms are scattered throughout the tropical garden. Each enjoys privacy and, although all are similarly sized and facilitated, the master bedroom is slightly more indulgent and includes a private deck with sunken jacuzzi tub. The large, free-form swimming pool with twin shallow sections takes pride of place beside a lush green lawn which sprawls around the front of a wide timber deck that’s littered with sun loungers topped with towels, sun hats and lotions, and encircled by tranquil reflection pools. A bar standing at one end of the swimming pool heightens the sociability of the pool area whilst inbuilt Bose speakers provide entertainment from morning until night. A media room leads off from the pool deck and here you can play a game of pool, pick a book from the library or curl up in front of the TV to watch a movie in air conditioned splendour.

The villa is fully-staffed and, to make up for its slightly out-of-the-way (although incredibly scenic and tranquil) coastal location close to Seseh, a seven-seater car with driver is available to guests for up to ten hours a day with the only cost being for petrol. Although there are a couple of good chefs to cook meals for you from a suggestion menu (provisions on guest account), you can also use the excellent fully-equipped sea-view kitchen yourself should you prefer.

*[Note: The villa has proven a very popular venue for weddings and parties but has had to scale back the number of functions it handles due to sensitivities of the neighbourhood, do check with us first if you wish to hold a function here.]

Villa Semarapura consists of a series of pavilions fitted with antiques and contemporary furnishings. Three of the bedrooms are free-standing whilst the other two, including a twin and a double, are located in a building connected to the living areas by pathways, with views directly across the front lawn.

The main building is a raised pavilion-style living room with wide open views over the swimming pool, gardens and sea temple to the horizon beyond. Here there are two separate seating areas with comfortable sofas and chairs nestled around a pair of coffee tables. Below the living room and opening onto the expansive pool terrace is a media room with a handful of sofas huddled around a home theatre LCD TV with satellite connection and DVD player as well as a pool table, a corner bar and a library with a generous selection of books, DVDs and CDs. There’s a washroom located just off of here too.

The villa has an excellent fully-equipped kitchen that’s spacious, sociable and functional. A wide breakfast bar is placed in front of folding doors that open onto a very inspiring view of the garden and sea. Just across from the kitchen is the stand-alone air conditioned dining pavilion with circular table for ten and floor-to-ceiling glass doors on three sides that open completely to the views.

The master bedroom is located at the far corner of the property and has its own private terrace with free-standing hammock and jacuzzi as well as easy access to a shaded balé dressed with soft drapes and cushions. Although slightly larger than the other guestrooms, it shares the same amenities of air conditioning, fans, sofas, LCD TVs with DVD players, iPod docks, closets with safe and laundry bags and ensuite air conditioned bathrooms with showers, tubs and toiletries. Four of the bedrooms have king-size beds and additional outside showers in small walled gardens. The fifth bedroom is twin-bedded (can convert to a king) and does not have an outside shower.

Beside the swimming pool is a back-lit bar with granite top, high chairs and a small fridge/freezer plus a BBQ area and further casual seating to one side. A second cushion-filled balé is located on a rise at the top of the garden overlooking the sea.
