Villa Sembilan sits in the centre of Seminyak but you would not believe it, given the peace and tranquillity. Inside this walled enclave is a perfect cosy garden escape dripping with plants that shade a refreshing 12m swimming pool. A fountain provides a pleasant backdrop whilst butterflies scamper amongst the hibiscus and delicate white orchids hanging off the palms.

Villa Sembilan is really two villas joined via large walled door. The master suite is self contained with its own 6m pool, private entrance, outside dining area for up to 4 and a study room (ensuite) which doubles as the 5th bedroom when required. In the main villa area, the living and 12-seater dining areas sit in an open sided pavilion with a vaulted ceiling made from tight alang alang thatch and spills out onto the main swimming pool terrace decked with sun loungers, umbrellas and a shady balé. Two large fans spin lazily overhead. Everywhere are strong hints of wood - teak beams and columns, the solid wood tables, seats of soft rattan – which contrast nicely with the whitewashed walls and terrazzo floors. The rich greens and colourful flowers of the encroaching garden add wonderful warmth.

The 3 remaining bedrooms, all ensuite, are housed in a two storey pavilion overlooking the swimming pool. At the end of this sits the kitchen, home to the in-house chef, and an open bar area, home to the 4 butlers and waitresses who are available 24/7. Although the master suite has its own kitchenette, the main kitchen serves both parts of the villa. The chef will also handle the provisioning for a small fee; alternatively there is a restaurant style menu. A villa manager makes sure everything runs smoothly and will handle extras such as spa bookings (in-house or out) and car/driver rentals. The upmarket Laksmana Villas complex has 24-hour security.

Entry to the walled Villa Sembilan is through wooden doors and over stepping stones which bridge a small fishpond. To the left lies the single storey open-sided living and dining pavilion which leads over to the swimming pool. To the right is a two storey pavilion which houses 3 bedrooms, the main kitchen and bar. Walk past the pool and its fountain wall and through a large doorway to a second pool and the master suite of rooms. The master suite has a king bed, ensuite marble bathroom with separate tub and shower. Outside a small sun terrace allows for meals to be taken in private away from the main part of the villa via a small serving kitchenette. A second room is typically set up as a study with TV, DVD player and satellite channels with a small selection of DVDs and a reasonable collection of books. Two sofas/beds, a walk in wardrobe and ensuite shower makes for easy configuration into a twin bedroom if required.

The remaining 3 bedrooms are housed in a two storey pavilion in the main villa section. Two bedrooms are downstairs, each have king bed; ensuite marble bathrooms with separate showers and tubs are walled and semi open giving lovely natural feel. A small terrace leads out to the pool. Up a narrow wood staircase is the 3rd guest bedroom, also king, with ensuite enclosed shower room. A small private terrace offers views over the roofs of Seminyak and down to the villa pool. All the bedrooms are tastefully painted with rich greens and reds and decked out with local Balinese art and sculptures. Air-conditioning, TVs with DVDs and satellite, and safes are standard. WiFi is villa wide.
