The Shamira
Walking into the rambling villa through the shady garden, you will be spellbound by the seemingly never-ending softly-lit niches and alcoves. This is a haven to explore and then chill-out in, with 13 different sitting areas, both indoors and out; from the bale (relaxation pavilion) beside the pool, to the rooftop terrace, to the cushioned sofas dotted around the living and dining space. There’s plenty to read, including a huge collection of National Geographic, and even a full set of Encyclopaedia Britannica.
The garden is mature and overflowing with greenery, potted plants and splashes of colour, dominated by a large swimming pool. Antique furnishings, tasteful objets d’art and white orchids fill the rooms, enhanced by shell sculptures that hang from the rafters and serve as an audible reminder of the cool breeze blowing.
The Shamira is serviced by a ‘family’ of loyal staff including an excellent cook, housekeepers, and security. There is a suggestion menu, and the food and beverage shopping will be done for you by the staff (all groceries on guest account).
With four romantic bedrooms and four bathrooms, this delightful home is perfect for families with children of any age: teens will find the place much to their liking thanks to the separate upstairs bedroom and the plethora of hidey-holes in which to escape from the oldies. Groups of friends will also take pleasure in The Shamira's amazing variety.

The Shamira presents four air-conditioned bedrooms, four bathrooms, an air-conditioned sitting room with satellite-channel TV/DVD player, and a hugely spacious, open-sided ground floor that spills onto the pool deck, offering an extensive choice of sitting areas, dining areas and comfortable cushioned nooks for hanging out. In addition, there is a cosy sitting area on the upstairs landing, a rooftop dining terrace, a poolside bale (relaxation pavilion), and various other furnished outdoor areas bordered by bougainvillea. The staff prepare meals in a small, homely, yet well-equipped kitchen, and there’s also a gas-fired barbeque for guests’ use. A choice of dining tables accommodate between two and ten diners, while sofas, armchairs and daybeds rest in distinct areas, allowing you to escape to private corners for quiet conversation on the peripheral of the main hub.
Three of the bedrooms are situated upstairs off the main landing, which is furnished with a sofa, armchair and a full bookcase. The huge master suite has a queen-size, four-poster, brass bed, a walk-in wardrobe, and French windows leading to a private rooftop terrace. The luxurious ensuite bathroom is fitted with a large bathtub with handheld and standing shower units. The other two bedrooms on this floor share a bathroom with a standing shower. One of the bedrooms has a bronze, four-poster queen bed and walk-in wardrobe, while the other is small and all white, with a four-poster queen bed that fills the room. The fourth guestroom is housed in a stand-alone pavilion close to the poolside gazebo. It has a (1.5m-wide!) double bed, and a compact ensuite bathroom with walk-in rain shower. An extra bedroom is situated in the soaring horseshoe-shaped roof of a lumbung (traditional Balinese rice barn), integrated into the house. It presents a queen-size, four-poster bed, cottage-style furnishings, shuttered but glassless windows (despite the air-conditioning) and a ‘Romeo & Juliet’ wooden balcony furnished with a colonial lazy chair and a rocking chair. The magnificent fourth bathroom is downstairs and open-air, with a sunken tub for two, a rain shower under the sky, twin washbasins, and Balinese statues.
The walled garden is comprised of semi-private courtyards, terraces and lawns, with a 12m pool central to the scene (a childproof pool fence is available on request).
