Simona Oasis & Spa
5 exquisitely finished single story suites fashioned from Bangkerai wood and black lava stone sit in delightful gardens which boast a staggering variety of plants and trees from cocoa, banana and mango trees laden with fruit to Heliconia, Jasmine, Ixora and Firecracker shrubs all laden with flowers. Interspersed in the gardens are man-size pots, stone statues and Balinese style friezes. The gardens extend into each of the bathrooms which are open sided and surrounded by high walls – so romantic. A 13m swimming pool decked out with sun loungers and umbrellas and a snug little balé sits at one end of the gardens facing the open sided living and dining room pavilion. Here there is a menu to help select food but the chef is very happy taking requests – he also does all the shopping and provisioning on the guest account. For those who can tear themselves away from this oasis, a car and driver is available, only the petrol has to be paid for.

The focal point of Villa Simona Oasis and Spa is the large open sided living and dining pavilion raised at the centre of the villa off which is a small bar and modern kitchen. Thatched and furnished in heavy etched teak, it commands views down over the grass and paved terraces to the decked black volcanic stone swimming pool which edges one of the streams and paddy fields beyond. Behind the pool is a delightful balé (gazebo) known as a ‘bale bengong’, meaning ‘a place to relax, dream and do nothing’. Overlooking the pool are the master suite and one of the guest suites, each with floor to ceiling windows. In the alfresco bathroom of the master suite, entered via a colonnade walkway, you can enjoy a private Jacuzzi under a thatched roof beside the Pangi River. A wrap around terrace off the bedroom enjoys similar views.
Two of the guest suites, one overlooking the pool and one set privately at the back of the villa overlooking the river, have huge garden bathrooms with outdoor tubs and raindrop showers – complemented by twin washbasins and premium Italian bath products and fluffy Pratesi towels. The two remaining guest bedrooms have equally attractive outdoor walled bathrooms, though not as generous. Four of the bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds, while the fifth bedroom is twin-bedded. The bedrooms, each named after the Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata Indian epic, are equipped with air-conditioning, individually controlled LCD satellite TV accompanying DVD player, quality sound system and iPod dock. A mini fridge and safe is also included.
Down a small spit of land accessed by a pretty bridge is the villa’s private spa. A series of round pavilions tucked away along the river’s edge house massage beds, Jacuzzi and plunge baths.
