Six Degrees North
After completely restoring the original villa that stood on the land, the owners of Six Degrees North seamlessly constructed a new section to the front of the property, adding further bedrooms, extending the living space and bringing everything up to date. As a result the villa is wonderfully spacious with each of the four bedrooms being of a similar size and equal in comfort. The contemporary open-plan living space combines the kitchen, lounge and dining room, and spills onto the front veranda where, in full view of the garden and sea, further options for relaxing and dining can be found.
The villa comes with a staff of four, including a friendly manager who provides everything that guests might want or need – including lobster for the barbecue and a chef to cook for special occasions. Guests can choose to self-cater or be catered for by the villa housekeeper who makes delicious Sri Lankan cuisine and seafood dishes according to a priced menu. One of the staff members is also a trained ayurvedic masseuse, and an ayurvedic doctor can be called upon at any time to come to meet guests and prepare full treatment plans, if so desired. Further afield, the manager runs a tour company in nearby Hikkaduwa so for sightseeing and travel planning you couldn’t be in better hands!

Six Degrees North is a delightful renovation of an old house with a new construction built seamlessly onto the front to complement and improve the spaciousness of the property. As such, the four bedrooms are generously sized whilst the living and dining areas are suitably contemporary and completely open plan. At the rear of the house, closest to the road, are the staff quarters that can be completely shut off from the rest of the villa, and the staff use a second kitchen here to prepare all the meals.
Each of the villa’s four air conditioned bedrooms comes with a king-size bed (which can be converted into twins) dressed in the softest Egyptian cotton, ceiling fans, wardrobes and ensuite bathrooms with piping hot showers. Three are located on the ground floor, whilst the fourth is secreted up an original timber staircase in the ‘attic’ of the older portion of the house which would once have been used to store spices and rice. Today, the aroma of spices has long since disappeared, to be replaced by the pleasant aroma of pinewood used in the construction of the ceiling and walls.
Below the timber staircase is a small laundry room that adjoins the house’s central hallway where a herbal steam bath and massage table are situated. The hallway leads through to a sociable open-plan living and dining space where a generous sofa-filled lounge area includes a satellite channel TV, a DVD player and an iPod dock. The dining area is furnished with table for six situated next to a fully equipped open kitchen finished in smooth granite. A pair of folding doors lead from the living area onto a deep furnished veranda. The garden stretches out beyond with gorgeous views of the sea.
