Set in lush, quiet surrounds just a kilometre from the sparkling Nai Harn beach on Phuket’s southern tip, this six-bedroom, two-storey villa sits at the corner of The Villas private estate with views of a gently rising hill bursting with tropical vegetation. Sunstone Villa is particularly well suited to families and groups, offering a choice of four king-bedded bedrooms plus one bedroom with twin beds and a cosy little room with a bunk bed. Two comfy living rooms are each equipped with TV entertainment, while the second living room on the bottom floor features a kitchenette and easy access to the pool. Ideal for two sets of families seeking some extra privacy, this living room, plus two of the bedrooms, can be sectioned off into a separate unit by a door at the base of the stairs. Guests of all ages will relish the ten-metre pool and expansive terrace space for lounging in the sun.

Nai Harn, one of Phuket’s prettiest white-sand beaches, is only one kilometre away. Along the way is a public park with a children’s playground and lagoon. There are plenty of dining options at the beach and in Nai Harn village, from simple noodle shops to upscale Italian, French and other international restaurants. Those wishing to explore will love cruising these coastal roads on Phuket’s southernmost tip, which lead to some of the island’s most picturesque lookout points and lesser-known beaches.

On arrival at Sunstone Villa, guests are met by the villa manager who checks in regularly throughout the stay. She can help organise extra services such as car rental, babysitting, massages, taxi service and tours. Complimentary services include in-villa laundry and airport transfer as well as breakfast and lunch prepared daily by the full-time cook—housekeeper (guests pay only for provisions at cost). Alternatively, evening meals may be arranged in place of lunch for a small extra charge. Meals are enjoyed the Thai way on a cushioned platform with a low table in the modern kitchen, alfresco at the main dining table on the balcony, or in the poolside sala (gazebo).

Sunstone Villa’s six bedrooms, two living areas, kitchen and study are spread across two levels and oriented to enjoy privacy and views of the natural surrounds from most rooms. Stretching out from the bottom floor is a large sand-wash terrace with a sunbathing area on its upper tier and a ten-metre swimming pool, barbecue and sala dining area on the lower tier, all facing a panorama of tropical greenery. Every room is draped in orange and gold Thai silks, reflecting the colour of the gemstone the villa is named after. Buddhist-themed paintings add a sense of serenity throughout, as do the earth-toned and teak furnishings.

The master suite is the only bedroom on the top floor and offers views of distant hills from its balcony. This room is tastefully furnished with a four-poster king-size bed, desk and large open wardrobe facing an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub, shower and two vanity sets. Downstairs, two king-bedded rooms with ensuite bathrooms enjoy direct access to the pool terrace, while children are comfortably accommodated in a small bunk room and a twin-bedded room. The latter features an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub and is the only bedroom equipped with an entertainment unit (TV, DVD player and Wii). A fourth room with a king-size bed sits towards the back of the villa next to a shower room that it shares with the bunk room.

The main living room is on the top floor, featuring a huge U-shaped brown leather sofa – perfect for families to pile onto for a night of movie-watching on the 50-inch flat-screen TV. Double-wide sliding glass doors open out to the covered balcony, where an elegant 12-seater teak dining table stands next to an L-shaped poly-rattan sofa (an ideal spot for enjoying a glass of wine before dinner). Just behind the living room is a spacious kitchen featuring a Thai-style dining corner with padded floor seating that’s sure to delight the kids. Tucked away near the entrance is a small study with a desk and computer (on request). The second comfortably furnished living room is downstairs, also equipped with a TV plus a kitchenette. Every room in the villa has air conditioning and ceiling fans.
