Villa Taman Sorga
With its design based on a traditional Balinese compound, successfully blending traditional and modern, this sumptuous six-bedroomed residence features a series of pavilions beautifully spread over 3,900sqm of private walled gardens fringed by coconut trees.
Highlights here are undoubtedly the magnificent living pavilion, built to the exact specifications of a traditional Balinese wantilan (village meeting hall), and the main house which, drenched with Indonesian antiques and furnishings, features exquisite craftsmanship and stunning interiors of a bygone era. Skilled artisans were commissioned to work on-site for a year, carving fine woods for the villa’s countless pillars and embellishments. It’s obvious at every turn that a great deal of passion and commitment has gone into the preservation and celebration of Bali’s rich cultural heritage and traditions at Taman Sorga.
Complementing these fascinating traditional buildings are a contemporary-style guest wing, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a modern gym, a rustic dining room, a pool house and a 17m lagoon-style pool. Hi-tech facilities and luxurious comforts are provided throughout, and the property runs smoothly courtesy of a long-serving team of staff who extend genuine warm hospitality. The two experienced chefs provide an eclectic array of culinary offerings, from Indonesian specialties to Western favourites and Mongolian barbecues, accompanied by top-notch Chilean wines from the wine cellar and finest Italian coffees. First day breakfast is complimentary, while other provisions are charged at cost price.
With its large number of bedrooms, plentiful living spaces and extensive gardens, Taman Sorga is a gift from the gods for large families or discerning groups of friends who will relish the villa’s privacy, spaciousness and authenticity, combined with a relaxed ambiance and easy access to Sanur’s beach and leisure activities. Strategically placed and served by a commendable road network, Sanur is also within convenient driving distance of many of Bali’s attractions. Chauffeur-driven car or self-drive options can be arranged at extra cost – for those willing to leave their divine sanctuary!

Taman Sorga’s seven pavilions all face inwards to the gardens but contrast in design, size and ambiance.
The spacious, all-white guest wing is infused with colonial-inspired architecture and features airy interiors, polished stone floors and a wide colonnaded terrace below a balcony which runs the building’s entire length. Four of the six air-conditioned bedrooms are housed here. Upstairs is a master bedroom with king-size bed, dressing area and ensuite bathroom in cream marble boasting a state-of-the-art hydro-massage shower. Two further guest rooms are situated on this floor, both with twin beds that convert into doubles and ensuite bathrooms with small tubs and massage showers.
Downstairs, a second master suite, similar in style to the upstairs bedroom, includes a jacuzzi bathtub as well as the massage shower in its luxurious ensuite. Also on the ground floor of the guest wing is a spacious media studio with rotating flat-screen satellite TV, DVD player and several comfy sofas. This room also has an ensuite bathroom and so could be used to sleep extra guests.
Bedrooms five and six rest within the stunning main house. Downstairs, the atmospheric master bedroom flaunts a canopied king-size four-poster bed and elongated conservatory-style bathroom with marble shower and antique Javanese carved doors. The upstairs master is quite magnificent, with two stately queen-sized beds set within an antique ceremonial pavilion originating from a palace in Bali’s former administrative capital, Singaraja. A broad timber terrace with carved embellishments wraps around the room, while a sunken bathtub and walk-in shower grace its ensuite.
The wantilan-style living pavilion features a two-tiered ironwood roof supported by gilded wooden pillars. With its leather sofas, massive antique table and sophisticated audio visuals, this area is ideal for entertaining.
Lavishly equipped and ultra stylish, the all-white kitchen is linked by a bridge across a fish pond to the dining pavilion. A formal indoor dining area furnished in elegant Balinese style seats 12 while, outside on the veranda, casual meals can be served in fan-cooled comfort.
These pavilions all rest within beautifully cultivated gardens. A 17m lagoon-style swimming pool, surrounded by stone deck, was designed to weave through mature trees and comes flanked by an open-sided timber deck pool house; nearby, a modern pavilion houses a small gym.
All bedrooms, as well as the kitchen, feature large flat-screen satellite TVs and DVD players, and WiFi is available throughout.
