Villa Tukad Pangi

Tukad means river in Balinese; therefore it’s no surprise that Villa Tukad Pangi hugs the bank of the river Pangi. Its fast flowing water winds through the sleepy village of Pererenan on the final stretch of its journey to the Indian Ocean. The sound of the cascading river creates a rarefied ambience enjoyed from all levels of the property.

The owner of the ultra chic and tastefully furnished Villa Tukad Pangi has brought in top design professionals to ensure attention to detail throughout. Built on three levels, following the contours of the land as it slopes down to the river, the villa celebrates tropical living at its best. Stylish and comfortable open-air dining and living areas on the upper levels look out over an infinity pool (8.5 x 4m) flanked by sun loungers and frangipani trees whilst, below, a second infinity pool (7.2 x 6.4m) hangs over the lush river bank between a comfortable balé (gazebo) and the master bedroom suite. All three bedrooms are detached from each other in charming slate-roofed bungalows with delightful outdoor bathrooms. Those seeking indoor entertainment or respite from the tropical sun will enjoy the sleek air conditioned multimedia room.

With a professionally appointed kitchen and all the amenities of a five star resort, coupled with the enchanting river setting and the superbly attentive Balinese staff, this villa is just the place to ‘lay down your burden down by the riverside’. The in-house chef prepares delicious meals from an à la carte menu (provisions on guest account), whilst the charming butler, Ayu, is on hand to look after your every request; her unique creativity and presentation adding the final touches that make Villa Tukad Pangi such a memorable experience. Perfect for a group of three couples or a family with older kids, once here there is little reason to leave, especially with televisions and DVD players in all three bedrooms, plus not one but two big screen projectors!

If you do feel the urge to venture out, however, Pererenan surf beach is nearby and sophisticated Seminyak lies only a few kilometres further south.

A Balinese gate opens onto a walkway bridging a pond as you enter Tukad Pangi. Inside, under a high, cone-shaped alang alang(thatched) roof is an airy open-sided dining room. A glass-topped oval dining table (seats six) looks across to an open-sided lounge area where two L-shaped sofas share the view across the infinity swimming pool (8.5 x 4m) to the large trees that hug the riverside beyond. At the touch of a button a projector screen drops down in front of the pool and satellite television or DVD’s can be enjoyed, although the most comfortable place to view movies is in the adjacent air conditioned home theatre. Here a second big screen projector and home entertainment system is located in front of a comfy couch – the ultimate TV room!

Situated off the opposite side of the dining area is a stylishly designed kitchen with black terrazzo work surfaces and white cupboards. Excellently equipped it is fit for a restaurant – which is exactly how it functions.

Two identical guest bedrooms, accessed through patio doors, flank the upper level swimming pool. From each of these rooms a second set of sliding doors open onto wood-decked verandas, with sofas and easy chairs facing toward the river. The queen beds are accented by attractive throws and cushions and accompanied by a flat-screen TV and DVD player. Built-in wardrobes, mini bars and dressing tables are hidden behind partition walls, beyond which are stylish en suites with natural stone sinks and outdoor showers surrounded by tropical foliage.

The master bedroom is on the lower level of the villa; its wood-decked veranda, complete with sofa and easy chair, hanging over the river bank. Inside, the master suite is similar in design and enjoys all the luxuries of the guest bedrooms with the addition of a writing desk and lounging chair. Its sleek en suite is divided into three sections: an indoor vanity unit and toilet, an outdoor shower to the left, and an elegant outdoor terrazzo bathtub overlooking the river to the right.

A second infinity swimming pool (7.2 x 6.4m) follows the river’s contours to a large open balé, housing a floor-level daybed with Thai cushions – perfect for a doze or a massage.
