Villa Viva

  • Location: Natai Beach-Phang Nga
  • Number of bedrooms: 5
The incredibly lavish Villa Viva is not so much a beach villa as a palace by the sea. A sanctuary of refinement and pleasure, Viva features luxurious dining, kitchen and living areas on its main floor and a fabulous master suite and gym on the upper level. The entire front of the villa opens out to a broad terrace that leads to four bedroom pavilions, each a vision of silk-draped decadence in themselves, making this a dream holiday home for couples or groups (children under 12 are not permitted). An extensive art collection and eclectic decorative accents reflect the owners' admiration for equine beauty and Asian culture, with indoor and outdoor spaces steeped in Chinese, Hindu and Buddhist mythology and art pieces. Flat-screen TVs in nearly every room, a Bose sound system and a host of modern gadgets and controls make it easy to set the right mood and tempo.

The luxury extends outdoors, where a refreshing swim may be enjoyed in the 25m black-granite swimming pool, while an expansive white-tented barbecue area and a beachfront sala (Thai pavilion) are inviting spots for outdoor dining or a special occasion. One example of the villa's perfect symmetry are the pool deck pebble features arranged into a curved image evoking a Zen rock garden; this image is repeated in the stained-glass windows of the bathrooms in the bedroom pavilions.

Lining a beach of endless sands only heightens the villa's appeal, with spectacular sunsets that paint the sky, sea and pool with fiery hues as evening falls. High stone walls, a secured entrance gate and tropical landscaping ensure total privacy; all that's within walking distance are a handful of other villas, making a car necessary if one wishes to explore beyond the villa. Transport, spa treatments, golf bookings, excursions and other assistance may be arranged with the concierge service.

Five live-in staff keep the villa in pristine condition at the same time charming it up with their effortless warmth. Meals are prepared and served in style by the cook (charged to guest's account) and villa staff can help arrange provisioning, which will need to be done across the bridge in Phuket.

Built to match the owners' exacting standards and style, this impeccable showcase villa is a true gem for those who enjoy the finest things in life.

Viva means alive, and each room here is certainly full of life and colour. The wow factor is high even before reaching the front entrance, where a regal arched walkway takes you over a fish-pond water feature to imposing black double doors carved with dancing Apsara sprites. Inside is a vivid room in red, gold and glitter, with a formal dining and kitchen area on one side and a lounging corner on the other. The dining table is an intricately carved wooden showpiece ringed with ten magical acrylic chairs, all set under three crystal chandeliers.

Behind the chic red and silver lounging corner through a sliding teak door is a bright study and living room in a friendly floral theme with a 54-inch TV and loads of books, perfect for afternoon escapes from the sun. On the shaded terrace in front is a sumptuous set of rattan lounge chairs and sofas.

With gleaming granite countertops, sparkling first-class appliances, two islands and a wine cellar, the western kitchen is designed to a gourmet standard, while tucked behind it is a gleaming Thai outdoor kitchen. In front, an outdoor dining table with seating for eight is a perfect spot for enjoying a morning meal or informal dinner at sunset. Further towards the beach, the enormous white-tented barbecue area seems purpose-built for glamorous garden parties, which could spill over into the large beachfront sala beyond with enough seating for ten.

Occupying the main villa's top floor is the fairy-tale master suite in vivid red with stunning ocean views, featuring its own massage area, oversized spa bathtub, large flat-screen TV and connected fitness room. Four more bedrooms are in separate poolside pavilions with their own lavish bathrooms in glittering black and ultra romantic outdoor terrazzo bathtubs. Each bedroom has its own Thai name, Arom (Passion), Rak (Love), Mee Kwarm Sook (Happiness), Loomlong (Enchantment), with a unique colour theme in silk set under a stunning cherry-tone wood vaulted ceiling. All are beautifully furnished with king-sized beds and a stately desk set under a 32-inch TV with DVD player and stereo, while two feature their own massage beds.

Outside is a delightful choice of shaded and sunny areas to relax on the ample terrace and garden including 16 sunbeds set around the pool, should one wish for a change of scene from the beach.
